You can use the ONLINE program instead if your OS will no longer work with the downloaded/CD version. Apple has an aggressive OS retirement program which is not controlled by TT. Even if you could find a tax program that will still work with your OS this year it will not next year ... for instance H&R Block trails behind only one year as a rule.
My solution is to load Ventura onto an external hard drive. I'm running on it now but haven't put TurboTax on so don't know if there will be any issues. I will most likely wind up running everything from this external and I'll update when I've got it all working, but wanted to post this as an alternative to consider for those not wanting to buy a new Mac!
Interesting idea however the program will probably not work correctly on an external hard drive but good luck.
I just returned my TT 2023 to Amazon...not expecting it would not run on my MacBook pro.. downloaded H&R Block and it loaded fine and will get me through this year. I know TT is pushing their online program but I will be **bleep** to put my information out there and have no idea the control of my personal financial information. No thanks...
@Critter-3, works like a dream. The hard drive is running Ventura and is now my startup drive.
Update: Loaded TurboTax onto my external drive running Ventura, started my return and all is going smoothly.
Thanks !!
Great!!
Evamac,
This is my third try to reply. First two were deleted before I could send them.
Which Mac computer are you running and can it be updated past Big Sur? My iMac will not run anything past that. I'm surprised that yours will run on an external drive, unless it will run Ventura.
My MacBook Pro has been upgreaded to the latest version of Ventura and I will install my Turbotax Premier as soon as the 1099s are all her.

Having trouble signing into the Turbotax users support group. I keep getting a spinning symbol that goes on for ever. Not sure how I got into this to make the above post. It doesn't show that I'm logged in to the Turbotax community, but my post above was posted.
I suspect that the Intuit servers can't handle the volume of traffic today. This is frustrating to say the least. I'm curious to see if this and the previous post were actually posted to the user forum.

Hello,
TurboTax has 2 different versions.
TurboTax Desktop Operating system minimum requirements:
The desktop version is the one you pre-purchase and use offline on your computer as an installed program. You either purchase a CD to install or download it directly. This is the one you will not be able to use with Big Sur.
However sounds like you may be able to use our Online version. No downloading necessary. Sign in at TurboTax.com to get started. You can import prior year information to help you as well.
Verify you meet these system requirements. Also, some users have noted that Chrome works better than Safari.
TurboTax Online system requirements
Mac OS 11.0 (Big Sur)
Hope this helps!
my 2017 is currently running Ventura...yours should be able to if it is from 2017:
iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2017)
Model Identifier: iMac18,3
Part Numbers: MNE92xx/A, MNEA2xx/A, MNED2xx/A
Newest compatible operating system: macOS Ventura
Tech Specs: iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2017)
User Guide: iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2017)
you can upload your previous year's tax file to other companies such as HR Block...allows most data to be imported easily and perhaps you can use the free version of another program?
Yes, you're right. It was not showing available updates and when I forced it, refused to update. Apparently my hard drive, although functioning, has fatal flaws. It failed the S.M.A.R.T. test.
Running from the external has proved to be problem free so far.
I just saw your post, so it did get through. Sorry that you're having issues.
My Mac is a 27" 2017 and should have been able to update to Ventura but wouldn't, so I loaded Ventura onto the external.
Apparently my Mac internal hard drive has an issue (won't pass the S.M.A.R.T. Disk Aid text) and will probably die at some point.
For now, I'm fine with running off the external as I prefer my 27" monitor to any of the new models. It's been pretty seamless and TT is fine.
