TurboTax Desktop 2025 will not be compatible with Windows 10

TurboTax Desktop 2025 will not be compatible with Windows 10

Many of us feel exactly the same way.  I am not buying M-11, and I am actually very sad to be leaving INTUIT after Decades of utilizing Turbotax.  But I think we have to take a stand against these companies forcing us to to update our computers with their software.    Microsoft is losing for certain, but Intuit wants to lose as well.

TurboTax Desktop 2025 will not be compatible with Windows 10

Many of us are switching from TurboTax due to the Windows 11 update mandate, so you are not alone.  I would like to know which new company everyone is using, other than TurboTax.  I really hate that I am switching and not using Intuit, but we must take a stand at some point!

I really do not want to switch away from Turbo Tax, but am being forced to make the move. I am looking at H&R Block software.

At the moment, you have a choice of two other than TurboTax; H&R Block and TaxAct.

You'll have to make other arrangements when they stop supporting Windows 10.

Stand against what? Megacap corporations? No offense but I'm betting on the megacaps winning that battle.

I agree.  Longtime Macintax/Turbotax user.  I do NOT intend to buy a new computer just to run Windows 11. How hard can it really be to make Turbotax work with Windows 10?

Does it really matter?

You clearly free to continue running Windows 10, but you'll simply have to go with an online version of TurboTax or a desktop version from H&R Block or TaxAct.

How much did you get paid by Microsoft?

No one here works for Microsoft nor gets paid by that company for anything posted on this board.

For that matter, why would Microsoft pay Intuit when you consider that Intuit also produces a Mac desktop version of their software? The online versions don't benefit Microsoft either.

AND FINALLY, upgrading to Windows 11 from supported versions of Windows 10 is FREE.

TurboTax Desktop 2025 will not be compatible with Windows 10

Upgrading to Windows 11 is not free. I need to replace my laptop which is not very old with a brand new one before Windows 11 can be used.

@jimbo515x    You aren't upgrading your Windows 10 to 11.  If your Windows 10 computer can't be upgraded, you need to get a NEW Windows 11 computer or use the Online version.  My laptop is 5 years old (from 2020) and I was able to upgrade it to Windows 11 for free.

Define "not very old". Your laptop is probably over 9 years old (at least 7+) so I meant the upgrade is free for those without "old" hardware. Even 7 years in the tech world is an eternity.

@M-MTax My Dell laptop is 4 years old and has a TPM 1.x chip and not a TPM 2.0 chip which is required for Windows 11.

That seemed to have hit a note. Upgrade to Windows 11 is free because they want to you lock you down into submission through TPM, and that they want to use you as free testers. I have heard horror stories of Black Screen of death (that is the difference between Windows 10 and 11 -- it is not Blue). Also they do not support fully capable processors. So yes, Microsoft also has a corrupt relationship with Intel.
