TurboTax Deluxe for Mac download is NOT allowing me to do an override. Yes, I am in forms mode. I have to do one override every year but this year override is grayed out from the pulldown menu no matter if on the form or on the related worksheet. Help!

Some calculated items cannot be overridden.
Overrides voids the accuracy guarantee and cannot be e-filed.
What form and line are you trying to override.
Schedule 1 Line 16. It won't override on the worksheet either. Normally I just override it on the form each year without issue.
I looked at many other lines too on various forms, etc. just to see and my override (nearly the entire pulldown menu) is grayed out for them all. Is this a TurboTax bug???
* Please note, I have read many posts about overrides and fully understand it voids the accuracy guarantee as that comment is posted over and over and over again. I am not concerned about the accuracy guarantee. My CPA has instructed me to override this line due to my tax circumstances on what I file. For the past several years I have overridden this line with no issues whatsoever using TurboTax Deluxe for the Mac. I just need to be able to override this line like in past years.
It appears the override is not working (grayed out) at all for anything??? TurboTax Deluxe Mac Download (not online as online has never allowed overrides from what I understand).
Schedule 1 line 16 is not directly over-rideable. It comes from the "Self-employed Health and Long Term Care Insurance Deduction Worksheet" line 10.
I know of no way to override the Schedule 1.
Thank you for the reply. But TurboTax Deluxe CD/download on the Mac has ALWAYS been over-ridable in the past. Both on Schedule 1 (2018 and 2019) and prior to that when that line item was on Form 1040 (2017 and earlier). 10+ years I have overridden TurboTax errors ... and yes there are errors in the software. I know the tax code, my CPA knows the tax code and being locked into what TurboTax forms do sometimes is not correct - hence the need to override.
Anyone know how to do an override?
Evidentially TurboTax has chosen to make all the schedules not overrideable for 2020 - I cannot do it either.
Whether this is deliberate or a bug, I do not know. You can complain to customer support if you want but I am sure they will just tell you that data entry on the forms mode is not supported.
There is no single published number because it changes contently depending on the nature of the call and agent availability. Following the link below will either give a current number for you to call or take your number for a callback.
(Note that phone support is for paying customers only. There is no phone support for Free Customers.)
Here is a TurboTax FAQ for contacting customer support.

Well, upgrading to Premier didn't help either. Time to ask for a refund and switch to TaxAct. Unbelievable that TurboTax would pull the ability to do overrides which is a necessary feature for many people - AND they didn't disclose that!!! I've used TurboTax for 10+ years and sure it is buggy at times and you have to triple check its calculations before filing but to eliminate the override function is the last straw and makes it unusable.

All desktop versions are the same forms. The only difference is in the step-by-step interview that gives more help in higher levels.
There might be a reason to override, but I cannot think of any that should not be entered on a form without overrides.
BTW: I just tested this in TurboTax 2019 and Schedule 1 form entries could not be overridden in 2019 either, so this is not new for 2020.
[I also tested it for 2018 when it was on line 29 for schedule 1 and also not able to override.]
So exactally how did you do this in the past?
macuser_22:
Thank you for the replies. I just pulled up my 2019 and did confirm I overrode Line 16 in the 1040 worksheet. I can still change it. When launching 2019 TT for Mac there was an update. Even though I can still change the override on Line 16 in the 1040 worksheet the other lines I no longer can do an override. Perhaps their latest update changed that. Again, mine clearly shows in red font with yellow fill and I can change it still for that one line item that was previously changed. I tested it on a copy of my TT file. I have to mail my tax return every year because of the override but I am fine with that. I had seen online where another person was frustrated with the exact same scenario as mine trying to override Line 16.
It is really frustrating and dumb to not allow an override. If TT is concerned they should just give an extra warning or something. TaxAct website says it allows overrides on their download products like TT used to.
A pain in the rear workaround seems to be to upgrade to Premier (additional $30 + sales tax), create a dummy K-1 with just the one line item to populate Line 16, then will triple check all paperwork and make any manual changes directly on the forms before mailing them in. At least this way the calculations and other forms will be correct without having to do a complete manual return. Years ago I have done manual returns but it is time consuming. Allowing an override like in the past apparently was just too simple.....
To pile on... I too routinely have used "override" in past returns, to add Self employed health insurance. Per my CPA's instruction. This year, 2020, it no longer works. Schedule 1 (Form 1040) Part II, line 16. Very frustrating, and this will end my use of Turbotax!@!!
Don't worry. macuser_22 will (repeatedly) insist you are wrong and could never override that line in the past so stop complaining! LOL (and will want to get the last word in no matter what)
See my work around in my reply on February 16. It worked for me. Costs $30 more and a bit of a hassle, but since you would have to do the mail in of your return like me anyway it isn't too bad. Good luck.

I didn't say "never" - I said I tested it with the 2019 software and the override function does not work for that year either. If you have the 2019 software installed - try it yourself.
The TT program I purchased online is picking up the incorrect amount for QBID of the partnership k-1. It will not let me override with the correct amount. The program is not picking up the correct amount. It lists two components for the QBID while there is only one. There is no option on the forms menu to manually change the amount the TT program puts into from 8995- QBID. Why should I have to file by mail since the error was created by the program.
