Get your taxes done using TurboTax

Thank you for the replies. I just pulled up my 2019 and did confirm I overrode Line 16 in the 1040 worksheet. I can still change it. When launching 2019 TT for Mac there was an update. Even though I can still change the override on Line 16 in the 1040 worksheet the other lines I no longer can do an override. Perhaps their latest update changed that. Again, mine clearly shows in red font with yellow fill and I can change it still for that one line item that was previously changed. I tested it on a copy of my TT file. I have to mail my tax return every year because of the override but I am fine with that. I had seen online where another person was frustrated with the exact same scenario as mine trying to override Line 16.

It is really frustrating and dumb to not allow an override. If TT is concerned they should just give an extra warning or something. TaxAct website says it allows overrides on their download products like TT used to.

A pain in the rear workaround seems to be to upgrade to Premier (additional $30 + sales tax), create a dummy K-1 with just the one line item to populate Line 16, then will triple check all paperwork and make any manual changes directly on the forms before mailing them in. At least this way the calculations and other forms will be correct without having to do a complete manual return. Years ago I have done manual returns but it is time consuming. Allowing an override like in the past apparently was just too simple.....
