Turbo Tax never responds after pressing "Done with Income"

Seems like we all have the same problem with the program freezing when we click the "done with income" section and from reading the responses we all seem to be filing for Children or dependents.  I guess there is something about "minors" that is "coded" wrong according to the posts below.  The solution to not hit "done with income" is doable by using the tabs at the top of the page but seems they should have fixed the bug by now.

I am using the Mac version and had the same problem. Clicking on the tabs at the top did not work for me either.

However, if you save and quit TurboTax reopen TurboTax and navigate to the first screen where you see the deductions tab, it will work when you click on it.

I hope that helps anyone stuck with this rather silly bug.

Dear Intuit -I had my family taxes open, which I had finished earlier, and was working on my teen child's taxes which consisted of a single W2 (same employer, new name, new EIN and new state WH ID), a negligible state refund from last year, an imported e*trade acct with just dividends, and negligible interest from Bank of America which I typed in myself. Hope that will help you find this.

This is pretty pathetic on TurboTax part.  I am in the same situation with filing a return for someone under 18 yrs old and this has happened MULTIPLE times to me on two different returns.  Fix the programming already.

Here's another workaround.

I'm using Turbotax Premier CD/Download for Mac.

Restart turbotax.  Go to the personal profile and change the date of birth, so the filer is over 18.  Complete all the forms.  Then at the end, during review, there's an opportunity to change the age back to the correct value.

My filing has some dividends, short-term capital gains, and tiny long-term capital losses.  I wonder if capital loss is what we all have in common.

I bought Turbo Tax 2020 from Costco and installed it successfully but on 2 different computers it stopped responding after entering 1 w-2 and some 1099. please help!

This is terrible advice. You could probably submit this advice to every single problem anyone has, and it would probably be more useful in most cases than it would be here (i.e., greater than zero).

This is a shameful programming bug, as confirmed carefully and reported earlier.

To go and tell someone to jump through a bunch of hoops, creating work and potential problems for themselves with no chance of improvement is irresponsible.

There should be an easier way than this for the community to help others by letting them know when a post has incorrect information.

And also, what is motivating so many people to post wrong answers? Do they earn points or something? I understand the employees are doing it for a paycheck, and they are wrong more often than most, but at least I can understand why they are doing it.

regarding the theories about capital loss carryover, in my case it happened with no capital loss or carryover. Just a 1099-DIV and 1099-B (with gain) for a minor.

As confirmed earlier in this thread it is a clear programming bug, with pretty simple workarounds that seem to work for most people (did for me).

Just to chime in, I have experienced the same behavior, and tried all the fixes listed by folks in this blog.  It appears that using the task selector I can move on through the program interview without getting the 'not responding' crash.

I think I first stumbled with this when reporting investment income using the import feature from my broker; I cannot seem to go back and edit any 1099-B forms without crashing, but the electronic totals match the broker form totals, so I just won't try to edit anything.

Long-time user.  Disappointed in how difficult it is to get live help, or that it is even necessary.

With the desktop version, the application hangs when I click "Done with personal income." This is a tax return for a minor whose has unearned income in the form of dividends and stock sales (so a 1099-DIV and a 1099-B form.) 

When using the online version, after completing the income section, it hangs for a while and then logs me out.

Maybe the bug is in bringing up the interview questions pertitent to IRS Form 8615. The reason I suspect this is that once you restart/re-login and finally make your way to the Smart Check review, it will say you are missing entries on Form 8615.

Try using a Chrome browser and clearing browser data for all time.

Then sign in to TurboTax and clear the return and start over

Hopefully that will clear out any error that is going on with the account.

If the problem persists, then send me a diagnostic copy of the tax file and I will research what is causing it.

I forget to mention earlier that I'm using the CD/Download version, so I don't think your suggestion applies, seems intended for online version users.  I have not started my minor's return, so I would say the bug is not associated with the taxpayer's age.

What I was really hoping to see from the Tax Experts was a posted solution!  Come on, Intuit/TurboTax!
