Why does the 2023 foreign tax paid show up as a deduction on Schedule A AND a credit carry forward on Sched B Form 1116?

It depends. i think when you entered your information for 2023 in the Foreign Tax Credit section, you indicated you wanted to take the deduction instead of the credit. you may wish to go back and review those entries.

Not sure why a carryforward appears unless this was a carryforward from a previous year.
