Finally received my refund today October 7 it was approved on the 5th of Oct. No thanks to TurboTax. Good luck all God Bless
Not knowing when you filed, you should have gotten a letter from IRS requesting the form and you have to do the 8962 yourself. They give you a fax number and tell you what to fax like all forms and the letter. My 8962 showed that I got a slight increase in my return because my AGI was a little lower than when I signed up for the ACA. I sent my 1040a to show that but they did not add the amount to my refund. Oh well, it took about 3 months after that but I faxed it in end of Feb. The letter states to NOT send or do a 1040X as it will complicate things they say. Good luck.
maybe TT did ask. TT changed the way it handled medical insurance. it was all under medical expenses so when you went through itemized deductions and skipped the medical expense part you probably missed the questions on Obamacare.
MESSAGE TO TURBOTAX: I was one of the people who filed early before they fixed the marketplace health insurance glitch. I would just like to say that I have been very disappointed with how turbotax handled the mishap. I paid $40.00 for my taxes and then I had to spend several hours of my own time fixing my taxes and calling the IRS because of turbo tax's mistake.
I DID contact turbotax to ask about health insurance and was told it wasn't required this year because I thought it was strange turbotax didn't include a prompt for health insurance, in fact, I kept going back to the health insurance page trying to find a place to input that info, hence the reason I called. I was later told by multiple people from turbotax and the IRS that it was a huge issue this year. I called to ask for a refund of my $40.00 and no one returned my call. This is unprofessional as if someone needs to tell you that. Furthermore, never again will I pay for turbotax's services on account of the fact that they did not take responsibility and refund me and they actually caused me more work than if I had done my taxes on my own the first time around. If I choose to pay to have my taxes done in the future, it won't be through turbotax. I would rather pay double the $40.00 to a personal tax specialist and know they will take responsibility if there is an error.
I was going to school for my Master's of Science and working full-time. It's people like me that use turbotax in the first place because we don't have the time to research the IRS policies to ensure turbotax is being thorough. If I'm expected to do everything myself, why use turbotax at all? I'm doing my best to find an alternative this year, if I cannot, I will never consider more than the free version as it clearly yields no benefit to pay.
I filed in February...got my notice early March and sent in the 8962 mid March....my taxes finally got approved this morning . Finally this nightmare is over . Good luck to everyone , hopefully they get through the rest quickly
I agree with you! I filed my taxes in April, they were accepted, got a letter in July about the 1095 issue (Turbotax's fault) and I faxed it all in within the same day. I finally got someone at the IRS on the phone yesterday--they said it could be 8 more weeks to get my refund.....and if I don't hear back by then, I can always call then. Yup. Thanks Turbotax! I am broke because of Covid. My husband lost his job and we could use our refund. Good luck getting a resolution to all of this.
@lcha100 If you filed the return in April then this was purely a user error ... the program was asking everyone if they had a 1095-A to report so you must have missed or misunderstood this screen ...
Thank you but, this screen did not come up when I did my taxes--sadly. If it did, I would have filled out the section for sure. If you read the other users comments, they all had a similar issue. I believe that Turbotax, upon hearing all of the complaints, has rectified their mistake and the screen will come up now. So, it was too late for me and all of the other customers, but going forward, it looks like it will be okay. Meanwhile....I am still waiting for my refund:)
if you were not covered under the ACA and didn't itemize your deductions or if you did your medical expenses were less than 7.5% of adjusted gross income, it won't matter because you have nothing that needs to have been or should have been reported.
Obviously, it did matter and I corrected it within 5 minutes of getting a letter from the IRS. The issue was that at the time that I filed, Turbotax was skipping that section and this is why the posters to this issue....had the issue.
It was Turbotax's mistake. My taxes remain in the IRS piles of things to do--((I am going to assume that the people answering to my message---are Turbotax workers. This is fine. ((You know that you had a glitch and it was fixed--just too late for me.)) Moving on....
It may have been there when you received yours a few months after everyone else well not everyone else received theirs and the option was not there and since this was not mandatory everyone assumed it was not needed it has been a long wait and every time I call I am told six to eight weeks so it's not an operator error it's a program error
how did you fill out your 8962?
I followed exactly what the papers from the IRS said and I printed it out, filled it out and sent it to them. If you need advice on what to do exactly, there is a question that someone asked on another forum on here and if you follow their advice, it will come out alright.
I filed my return on Feb 3 and didn't get a letter until July that I needed to send in form 8962.
My return has been in "pending" status since then. I finally got thru to a live person, after spending over 3 hours on hold,at the IRS today (Tax Payer Advocate). They told me that they pulled my return in July to wait to receive form 8962 and then they failed to put it back into the process when they received it from me. I now still have another week to wait for a call back from them on this and hopefully it won't involve anymore being put on hold for hours.
The phone number to call to get to a real person is [phone number removed].
Did Turboxtax give any kind of settlement or compensation to customers who are dealing with this mess? It would be hard to stay with this company for future tax filing. I am going to give them a bad review and switch to filing with someone else.
No. They are not giving refunds as the law was changed with no mandate. Therefore, they did. It gave to provide info for 8962. I finally got my refund October 12th after filing February 24th. Because of pandemic is real reason for delay. But turbo tax should have at least asked if we had form 1095a from market place. I did not even bother this year so it will not be an issue. But it was horrible waiting 8 months to get refund.
