I’m filing in North Carolina also and keep getting the same message.  My Federal return has already been excepted and is being processed so I don’t understand why I’m getting this message for State.  I’ve used turbo tax for 9 years and have never had a problem.  I would like this addressed so it’s not another thing to worry about!!!!

I don’t know why this whole time I didn’t just file federal alone but it has just been such a breeze filing both in the past but this year I’m having issues. I just went ahead and submitted federal this morning because I’ve gotten the run around grom

multiple turbo tax representatives. It’s just frustrating not having an answer to any of it!! I’ve been using turbo tax for years as well.

Everyone:  The NC state filing issue is expected to be resolved on 2/24/22, when forms are available.  This has been a terrible inconvenience, and I'm so sorry.  See the TurboTax Article linked below for important information and to sign up for email notifications when the issue has been resolved.

How do I get my $20 back I was charged for E-filing my NC return that failed to E-file if I switch to snail mail filing ?

TurboTax needs to make corrections in their system if this is the case.  I too am in NC and received the same e-mail on 2/12/22 that state D-400 was now available.  Logged back into the system and get all the way through to filing to receive the same error message listed.

How is TurboTax "checking for accuracy" and letting the filing get all the way to the end if the D-400 isn't truly available?  They need additional checks and balances in place to avoid this within the system and also to send all recipients of the original e-mail stating the form was ready, that in actuality it is not.

Will another e-mail come out to those affected once the form is in reality ready?

NC resident here.  They aren't accepting returns until Feb 28th so you can't file until then.  To file federal, follow DoninGA's method.  Worked flawlessly.  Make sure you click file by mail, then uncheck the state.  Federal should still say e-file.

"The North Carolina Individual Income Tax Return Form D-400 is not yet available for e-filing.  It is estimated to be available on 02/24/2022

Go to this TurboTax website for North Carolina state forms availability - https://care-cdn.prodsupportsite.a.intuit.com/forms-availability/turbotax_nc_online_individual.html

If you want to e-file your federal tax return now then change how you file the NC state return.  This assumes that all of the forms and schedules included in your federal tax return are available for e-filing.

If using the TurboTax online editions click on File on the left side of the online program screen.  On Step 3 of the File section click on Start or Revisit.  Select the button File by Mail.  Then change the filing status of the state return.

After the federal return is e-filed and accepted by the IRS you can e-file the state return when it is available for e-filing.  Just use the same procedure and change the state return back to e-filing."
