I'm a student with no job. However I make $1200 from stocks so would I have to file for taxes?

Yes, if you are single, under 65, and a dependent.

In IRS Pub 17, we see in Table 1-2:

You must file a return if any of the following apply.

• Your unearned income was more than $1,100.
