state tax

Hello,

I buy a lot online, and I'm always charged  the state tax. I live in AL.

Is it possible to deduct all that paid tax when submitting my taxes ?

Hi,

Yes, in theory, you can deduct sales tax paid. Here is an article from TurboTax that explains how to do it.  Here, also, is the IRS Sales Tax Deduction calculator.

I say "in theory" because the sales tax deduction is taken instead of the state income tax deduction (discussed in the TurboTax article). Also, generally, you would need enough deductions that your itemized deductions were greater than your standard deduction.  You don't provide your filing status in the question, but here is a link to the amounts of the standard deduction by filing status for 2022.

Hope this helps!  Please cheer below if it does!

Best,

Karen
