Hi,
I started a rental property in 2021 and purchased a new refrigerator which I used section 179 to deduct it at the full price for federal tax return. As in California this refrigerator needs to be deducted in 5 years, so 4/5 of the full price was added back as income in state tax return in 2021. This year (2022), 1/5 of the purchased price should be claimed as expense in state tax return but not federal tax return. Wonder how to claim it in state tax return only? Please help.
Thanks,
Belinda

TurboTax will automatically subtract the appropriate amount on your return if you entered your refrigerator last year and are using the same TurboTax account.
The subtraction will appear on Schedule CA, line 5, column B.
Thank you for your quick response. I checked Schedule CA(540), Section B, line 5, I see value in column A and C but nothing in column B.
After I installed 2022 TurboTax, I logged in with same account then import 2021 tax return. Then go through the wizard and answer questions with new values. Somehow TurboTax did not carryover this subtraction from 2021. Any advice please?
Thanks,
Belinda
Enter the refrigerator as an asset in Rentals and Royalties, but use the same info as you did on your 2021 tax return (including the same 2021 date of purchase and service date).
TurboTax should add back 1/5 onto your California return.
