When you say "go into the screen" to delete the carry forward, what screen exactly do you mean? I wasn't asked if I wanted to use the $20 carry forward from 2020. Thank you!!!
OY!!! It's always something!!!! H&R Deluxe seems to be the way to go!
The screen that shows the worksheet with your carryforward data on it. It is the back up to the 20 showing up on form 1116. You have to spend a little time on your own 30 minutes and you should be all set if current year credit is lower than 300./600 depending on filing status.
Go to forms and look below your form 116 should see 1116 Com[ WKS (Not Done) near the bottom is the raw data for credit carryforward on windows desktop version
Question?
Could you "Zero Out" the Carryover to 2021 for this year to get by the error message, and then next year just enter then number back in as Carryover to 2021 on your 2022 taxes?
No way to determine what Turbo Tax will do next year. You could always go back and amend your 2021 return but what a hassle.
Schedule B was not required last year so this is a new mandatory schedule, that said Turbo Tax should be prepared to use PDF attachments to allow for e-filing.
I tried H&R Deluxe but once you get to the 1116 schedule B you can either choose not to file and H&R will warn you or if you want to file it says you have to pay $89 to get a Tax Adviser which will finish your tax and e-file it for you.
I imported my investment forms from Vanguard a month ago. The missing form 1116 appears to have been fixed 3/3/2021 but the update has done nothing to o"fix" the foriegn tax credit problem. What goes?
Totally in agreement, not having form 1116 Schedule B available until 3/31 is an issue and bigger issue is not being able to file electronically.
Can Turbo Tax explain in 2022 when we can go to moon without being an astronaut, why we can't file our taxes electronically?
Did you upload your existing 2021 TT file into HRB Deluxe or 2020 and started all over again? Also does HRB deluxe upload form 8938 if you had it in your TT file.
Thanks!
If one does not want to wait until March 31 and have to use a pdf attachment, since one can carry forward excess foreign tax credit for up to 10 years, why not forgo claiming last year's carryover (and thus forgo schedule B) until next year when the things are worked out. Hopefully we can efile schedule B in 2023?
I am not using HRB so , I am using TT so not sure understanding your question?
Reading other comments it sounds like HRB is going to have the same issue when it comes to eFile.
That is not a bad idea however reading some of the posts here it sounds like since I have a carryover from this year as well even if I don't enter last year's carryover I will still need to file Schedule B.
Is that correct?
Anything you could have claimed in 2021 would be lost. Also may not flow well went your future return is loaded into IRS system.
Exactly so not entering 2020 Carryover is not the solution.
