Turbo Tax 2020 installed fine and will open fine on my Mac with Big Sur 11.1, but my prior year .tax2019 files have disappeared so I can’t transfer it to 2020. I really hope I don’t have to do 2020 from scratch.
I am having the same issue. If I wait long enough it eventually starts up. But since they update the app constantly everyday when it finally starts it immediately wants to update, which starts the long cycle all over again.
I just spoke with a technical support specialist who informed me that Turbo Tax has told him the 2020 software is not going to work with Big Sur. He offered me a PC version or recommended I get a Sierra machine. I have had same problems as others since most recent MAC OS update.
boy, don't tell anybody, maybe they'll shut me off, but my TT 2020 premier is running just fine on Mac OS 11.2.1, Macbook Air, 1.1 ghz intel core i3, 8gb. Mine wasn't working but a couple of weeks ago I got an upgrade that let it work. Run it from within the applications folder. I didn't try running it from the dock. But it's working fine.
you need to call back and ask for a Level 2 rep. (I posted the solution upthread.) I have Big Sur and T-tax 20 is working fine.
I'm happy for people who have Turbotax up and running on their Mac's. For me, I jumped over to H&R Block which runs just fine - no problems at all and it behaves like a Mac program should. I used Turbotax since it was first introduced sometime in the 1990's (remember floppy disk?). I must admit Turbotax is a little more refined than its competitor's products, but H&R is fine for the job and it costs less.
Not sure why the Tech Support recommended you get the Mac OS High Sierra, which is macOS 10.13. The TT instructions state it requires OS 10.14, Mojave, at lease. Catalina is also a 10.14 version. Big Sur is 11.xx.
I have a High Sierra mac and it will not run on it.
When you try to open the program, what is Turbo Tax saying?
HI, It appears to launch, Checks for updates, then a small box opens and says - you are up to date. Then a 6" by 6" box opens with the name TurboTax 2020 at the top center, the word Cancel at the bottom right of the box, and a quarter inch blue dot in the center. And nothing else. No response, or items to select, and the TurboTax menus are all dim, i.e. not selectable. The only item you can select is the Quit TurboTax. If I go to the top left Apple drop down menu, it shows TurboTax as a running program that you can select under recent programs and it is in the Force Quit menu.
THE ONLY REASON THAT I AM CONTINUING TO TRY 2020 IS THAT I HAVE USED TURBO TAX FOR ABOUT 10 YRS AND HAVING ALL THAT ON MY COMPUTER MAKES FILING EASIER. LOSING MY 2019 RETURN NEGATES CONTINUING WITH TURBO TAX. CANNOT GET ADEQUATE SUPPORT!
BAD NEWS THAT BIG SUR WILL NOT RUN TURBO TAX 2020 !
I HAVE A MAC-BOOK PRO MAYBE IT WILL ONLY RUN ON MACBOOK AIR?
I WISH THAT I COULD GET A DEFINITIVE ANSWER FROM APPLE OR INTUIT!
SOUNDS INTERESTING BUT I HATE TO THINK THAT I THREW AWAY MY MONEY
That's just plain false. I've been working on T-Tax Deluxe all morning and am running Big Sur 11.2.1 on an iMac and its running fine. (I can also open 2019 with no problems.)
For all who are still having issues with this, I was one of you, and the instructions below set things right for me.
To remove TurboTax from your computer, you'll need administrative rights.
Note: Substitute XX in these instructions for the 2-digit tax year of your TurboTax software.
Once you've removed those files and folders:
I copied and pasted these instructions from HERE:
