are you entering your expenses under schedule A or C? You may have to go back to the beginning of the deductions and check to make sure you didn't miss something. It sounds like you might be trying to enter your deductions under one of the income sections. Be sure to read questions carefully. I was having a problem with an income item that wasn't tied to my business and it wanted to link them together. I had to go back and read the income questions several times before I could get amount not to be associated with business.l
When entering in an expense and the tax due increases then you are probably being hit with the Alternative Minimum Tax ... review the entire return before and after entering in the deduction to see how it effects the bottom line ...

To view the entire return using the online editions before you file, you will need to pay for your online account.
To pay the TurboTax online account fees by credit card, without completing the 2017 return at this time, click on Tools … Then click on Print Center. Then click on Print, save or preview this year's return. On the next page, to pay by credit card, click Continue. On the next screen it will ask if you want Audit Defense, if you do not want this option just click on the Continue button. The next screen will ask for all your credit card information so you can pay for the account.
