Here I am, another one of the probably THOUSANDS of purchasers of TurboTax 2023 from Costco - and another recipient of software install failure due to alleged problems related to MSVCP140.dll. This sofware we purchased is the result very poor software quality assurance from Intuit. The Intuit staff that prepared the final software burnt to CD, botched it big-time. Obviously, Intuit's cheapy offshore software staff didn't test clean installs on different computer platforms.
I am a software developer, as well as an IT professional in general on many different platforms (PC, Windows, Linux, mainframe, server, etc.), and can't believe the ineptness. Not only does the install CD not work, it was BEYOND difficult to finally be able to get to the page in my online Intuit account where I could enter the license code I purchased from Costco. Holy hell, Intuit's online web is a labyrinth, with all sorts of broken links, and, well... CRAP! At one point, I clicked a help link and I was taken to Intuit's main page, in... Spanish! What??? (Maybe I should say, "Que???") FINALLY I found at turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/cd-download/ a link to click on that said "Access my downloads", and then finally the illusive "enter your license code here" in smaller font. Sheeesh. TER-RI-BLE!!! I have earned my PhD in Intuit software and website navigation, and now have the 2023 TurboTax running. TurboTax should be renamed TurtleTax...
The good news is, nothing new here folks, unfortunately. Like the large 8000+ employee credit reporting company I used to work for, mis-management chooses to cut US worker heads from the force, hire offshore IT workers (South American and/or Indian), and expect that they can have their new cheap labor turn out the same quality for cheaper. I do understand the pressure on mis-management though = there is big pressure to hire the new DEI Director, to make sure big-money folks are happy with Intuit's DEI progress. Also, gotta make sure Intuit's ESG score is high enough to keep those Blackrock fund managers happy. As a result of new DEI and ESG score Director-level employees, can't spend money on good software developers and good software quality assurance testers...
Intuit - to keep your customer base, don't screw the pooch anymore = deliver quality software, that WORKS.
Yes, download version makes it easy install instead spoiling your valuable desktop/laptop/PC good that you figured out a fix. Seems Turbotax don't care about their customer's time and resources, they should think before releasing thru big wholesaler outlets like BJ's, COstco, Samsclub etc. They should add one liner, that download ur software and install if you have internet instead giving CD and prompting every time to updater. There's no point running updater every time, every day in Feb, March months.
Turbotax should listen to customer's feedback instead running super-bowl ads, and pass some discounts to regular customers; even that's few $$ matter.
Exact same issue...
It forced me to switch to on-line then corrupted my previous files. I can no longer access previous years and have to refile for 2022 because they sent forms two months later I have to file for . At this point its a nightmare. I have to do the entire taxes over because of turbotax's faulty 2023 program that does not work in CD form for Windows 10. This has cost me 20 hours of grief. Will not be using turbo tax products any more after this. I'm done. Customer since 2016.
When I did that it destroyed all previous version files and I could not transfer 2022 data. Which is now a huge problem since I have to refile for 2022 I found out late. very disappointed and planning on using something else next year.
Will be calling at 5 AM before work to attempt to resolve the lost files after switching from CD to on-line because the CD didn't work. I have the PDF version only and it corrupted all other files switching over.
