She called again and the only advise she got was to file again by printing without sending by registered mail. The status changed in “Return printed for filing”. Then it should be possible to amend the filed return if necessary. Not very satisfactory.
Thank you very much for posting an update here.
March 16, 2023, the bug is still here
Which version did you use to file with @MMK4 ?
The latest desktop version as of march 16th, it is set up at auto-update.
She e-filed her 2021 Return on the 11th of April 2022. The IRS accepted her return the same day. But TurboTax probably changed the status (in unfiled) because of an incomplete e-file later. My theory is, that there were program updates after the 11th with minor alterations of the necessary forms and that the IRS has accepted or corrected this because it did not change the final outcome. However comparing the pdf of the e-file and the pdf of the printed Return (created last December) did not give noticeable differences.
To avoid this possible risk she will wait with e-filing until the end of May. The deadline for expats is June 15 2023. January 11 2023 she installed the TurboTax Premier 2022 (desktop version CD) software and imported her *.tax2021 file with the status "Return Printed for Filing". Everything went smoothly. Problem solved. Thanks.
