If you used the CD/download for 2021, then the tax file is only stored on your own hard drive. It is not stored online in your TT account. You can still transfer the 2021 data to online software when you start 2022 online--but you must do that transfer at the very beginning before you start putting in any new 2022 information.

Thank you. It's not worth it, then. Too much work.
When you use the DVD version, all information you enter is stored locally on your computer. Hopefully you saved a copy of the 2021 return in your local Turbo Tax folder. Turbo Tax DVD version provides the software program to complete the necessary tax return forms on your computer (and keeps your work in your local Turbo Tax folder - the name of your file usually begins with the filing year - in your case 2021- followed by your last name, first name or initial and Form 1040). They also provide an online "channel" for you to submit the return to the IRS (and to the State, if you chose the State option). But they will not have a copy of a return you completed using the DVD version. However, if you used the online version this year, I believe you will have access to that info on the Turbo Tax site the following year. I have always used DVD version, so I cannot attest personally to experiencing that availability, but that is my understanding.
Thank you.
