I own a tattoo shop. I am the only person at my current location and I am wondering if I can add my location rent as a deduction and where might I add that deduction?

You will claim this rental cost as "rental expense" on your schedule C which is where you will be reporting all of your business income and expenses.

To enter your office rental expense, please follow these steps:

  1. Click on Federal to the left of your screen and
  2. Click on Income and Expenses and then click the Start/Review box in the Self-Employment section.
  3. On the Your 2019 self-employed work summary screen, click on Edit next to your business. or click on Add a line of work if you haven't entered anything yet for this business
  4. After you add your business info and get back to the "Here's your business info" screen, click on Add Expenses for this work
  5. Scroll all the way down to Less Common Expenses and click on the arrow to open up more choices
  6. Building or land rental includes Office space rental
  7. Continue through the interview, entering the requested information.
