TurboTax does not support IRS Form 8978, Partner’s Additional Reporting Year Tax
Go to this IRS website for the Form 8978 - https://www.irs.gov/forms-pubs/about-form-8978
If we manually fill out the 8978 form, how do we integrate the total in our regular tax return? Do we enter the number from 8978 manually somewhere on the 1040 form?
Once you complete your Form 8978 manually, you will get a positive or a negative number on Line 14 of the form.
If it's a positive number (indicating you owe additional tax), it is generally entered on Schedule 2, Line 17z and 21. The amount from Schedule 2, Line 21 then carries to Form 1040, Line 23.
If it's a negative number (indicating a reduction in tax), it is generally entered on Schedule 3, Line 13z and Line 15. The amount from Schedule 3, Line 15 then carries to Form 1040, Line 31.
