TurboTax doesn't currently support Form 8978 (Adjustment to Partnership Income) directly within the software

However, you can still complete and file this form manually.

Here's what you can do:

  1. Download Form 8978 from the IRS website.
  2. Fill out the form manually following the IRS instructions.
  3. Attach the completed Form 8978 to your tax return and mail it to the IRS.

For more detailed information, you can refer to the  IRS Instructions for Form 8978 see available TurboTax forms at this link.

If we manually fill out the 8978 form, how do we integrate the total in our regular tax return?   Do we enter the number from 8978 manually somewhere on the 1040 form?

Once you complete your Form 8978 manually, you will get a positive or a negative number on Line 14 of the form.

If it's a positive number (indicating you owe additional tax), it is generally entered on Schedule 2, Line 17z and 21. The amount from Schedule 2, Line 21 then carries to Form 1040, Line 23.

If it's a negative number (indicating a reduction in tax), it is generally entered on Schedule 3, Line 13z and Line 15. The amount from Schedule 3, Line 15 then carries to Form 1040, Line 31.
