As each brokerage house is different, the answer to this is not crystal clear. Some, such as AMEX, send their packages out with a coded front page and TurboTax accepts those as input to access your information. Others, such as LPL Financial, require that you have an online account and then TurboTax will ask for your Userid and Password in order to gain access. With either method, TurboTax is very good at retrieving the information and importing it to the program ... even tells you what it's going to import before doing so.
So, hopefully, you already have an online account with the brokerage house and TurboTax has them in their list from which they can download / import.
