I have one of these 1099-B's for American Funds that has no "Payer's ITN" and no box 7 to look below for the EIN information. Are there any other suggestions on how to get the number for Full Service filing a return?
I was able to get the return accepted by changing the name of the payer to CAPITAL BANK AND TRUST CO and using EIN 95-6817943. I can't remember off the top of my head why I used this payer name. I must have googled and found that they were an affiliate? Or maybe that name was also listed on the 1099-R? I remember trying like 8 different things and this was the one to finally get accepted. Good Luck.
Did you try calling American Funds to obtain one or maybe visiting their website to try to get it from there.
Hi all- If you are looking at your 1099-DIV, you need to look at each individual fund listed on that form. It will say something like Fund: Washington Mutual. Follow those numbers until you get to Section 4- Federal Income tax withheld. Under each individual fund, you will see the fund's FEIN. It will be labeled as PAYER's TIN, and will be different from each Fund. So basically, you're not looking for American Funds' FEIN, you are looking for each individual Fund's FEIN. Hope this helps!
