how to update with w2-c filing for 2023 tax year

I received a W-2C from my former employer for the 2023 tax year and need to correctly file it using TurboTax Desktop. My original W-2 included wages from two states: January – March: California (state income tax applied) April – December: Nevada (no state income tax) Since TurboTax Online does not support W-2C, I understand that I must enter this correction through the TurboTax Desktop app. However, the process seems more cumbersome than a regular W-2 entry. Could someone provide step-by-step guidance on how to properly input the W-2C in TurboTax Desktop? Specifically: Do I need to enter the W-2C as a separate W-2, or should I modify the existing W-2 entry? How do I correctly update state wages so that only California (Jan-Mar) shows state tax withholding while Nevada remains blank? Are there any additional steps to ensure my federal and state tax calculations reflect the corrections properly? Any insights or best practices would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! This format is clear, concise, and detailed, making it easier for community members or TurboTax experts to respond with accurate guidance. Let me know if you want to tweak anything before postin

how to update with w2-c filing for 2023 tax year

You need to file an amended return for 2023 to report your corrected W-2.  When you are amending your return (unless there are other changes) you will only enter the items on your W-2c that changed.  You will be modifying the original W-2, but in the amended return.  You won't need to do anything for the state wages unless the changes on the corrected W-2 apply to state wages.  You will make the same type of adjustments you made on the original return using the updated amounts.

I strongly recommend you save a copy of your original .tax file as well as printing and saving a copy of your original return.
