I am anticipating a 1099k (not a W-2g) from Paypal for gambling winnings. How would I report this since it will be on a different type of form?
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
In the section for reporting gambling winnings, after entering the W-2G's that you received you will be asked if you received any other winnings, there you can enter the winnings reported on the 1099-K.
To enter, edit or delete Gambling Winnings and Losses -
Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home and Business)
Click on Wages and Income (Personal Income using Home and Business)
Click on I'll choose what I work on (if shown)
Scroll down to Less Common Income
On Gambling Winnings, click the start or update button
Or enter w2g in the Search box in the upper right of the program screen. Click on Jump to w2g
Thanks for the reply.
The income from a 1099-K would be reported as Additional Income on Schedule 1. You will be properly reporting your gambling income from both the W-2g and the 1099-K on Schedule 1 Line 8b. The total income from Schedule Part 1 Line 10 flows to your Form 1040 Line 8.
You will have entered your total income received and that income should be the same as what the IRS is expecting to see on your tax return.
If the IRS was to ever question you on the income reported on the 1099-K your response is that it was properly reported as gambling income on Schedule 1 and that additional income was properly reported on your Form 1040.
