How do I log a reproducible bug in Turbo Tax Online

There is a bug in the online Turbo Tax software for the Form 8938.

I am able to reproduce it easily.

Simply create a continuation/copy page of the Form 8938 and enter it ONLY for other foreign assets.

Fill in the information and fill in the section for a foreign address (address, city, province/state, postal/zip).

Go next and save.

Return to edit the page.

Select to enter for other foreign asset (which was filled in).

The postal code and province will be gone.

How can I get this logged and fixed by Turbo Tax so that the online software doesn't have this bug and I can complete my taxes?

We have tested this experience and are unable to reproduce the outcome you have seen. It's possible this is browser-related. Please log out of TurboTax and do the following:

Refresh your browser and clear out your cookies. If that does not work, try clearing out your browser's cache.

How do I log a reproducible bug in Turbo Tax Online

Hi,

I cleared all my cache and cookies and still get the error.

I also tried on IE, Edge and Chrome, and all get the same issue.

Please note that in my case I have 15 copies of the Form 8938 due to a large number of 'other foreign assets'.

My copies 6 through 15 only have the 'other foreign assets' filled in, there are no 'foreign accounts' so section 1 of the form is blank.

I can enter and save all my data.

However when I go back to edit a copy/page and select that I want to enter for an 'other foreign asset', the data for Postal and Province is lost.

To get around this I have entered the City, Postal and Province data all in the city data entry cell.

Is this a valid workaround or will my submission when I efile get rejected?

Essentially is the worksheet data (that you are using to grab city, province, postal) required?

I see the data correct on the Form 8938 since I entered everything in that 1 cell.

It should work since those cells aren't necessary for the filing.

How do I log a reproducible bug in Turbo Tax Online

I am having similar issue w the Desktop Version for 8938 and it is not saving the correct city and postal code for the Continuation Pages. Please suggest how to fix. This happened last year and I ended up doing the 8938 on the IRS website and printing and then mailing by return w the 8938. However, I would like to efile this year thru my TT Desktop-but with this bug/problem w 8938 I may have to resort to doing what I did last year and mail return- which I am expecting $ back, and don't want to wait for months to receive my return. This is disappointing that TT cannot fix this bug.

Investigation- 19365 is an active confirmed issue with the Form 8938 when it is only foreign assets. Now that the issue is confirmed, the team can work to correct the issue.

How do I log a reproducible bug in Turbo Tax Online

I found several other bugs in this same area that all need to be addressed. Note that all this Form 8938 info relates to Canada as the foreign asset country.

Bug 1: Add an 'Additional foreign financial account or Other foreign Asset' page. Select to add 'both a foreign account and an other financial asset on this page'. Enter all info for both assets and save. When you return you will see your additional pages (copy 1,2,etc). Select the extra page (ie copy 1) you entered and click edit. The first screen appears asking if you want to 'enter a foreign financial account or an other foreign financial asset on this page'.

* Bug * It automatically defaults to the top choice 'I need to enter a Foreign Financial Account' and forgets that I have BOTH a foreign account and an other financial asset.

Now, if you simply click next and by accident left it on the default top selection and go to the next screen it will erase and lose the 'other financial asset info'. For example, on the first screen simply click next with it defaulted at the top choice, even though we entered both a foreign financial account and an other financial asset. It moves to the next screen. Now go back (because I suddenly realize that I needed to select the BOTH options). Select the both option and go next.

*BUG * It is now too late and it has deleted the other foreign asset info.

Bug 2: This relates to the original bug I created at the start of this thread but it goes further. Add an 'Additional foreign financial account or Other foreign Asset' page. Select to add 'both a foreign account and an other financial asset on this page'. Enter all info for both assets. For this bug my foreign asset is a deposit account and I have a foreign institutional address. Put in values in the state/province and postal code. Continue and select options for more info and continue.  For the other foreign asset I have 'no' selected for if this asset relates to interest in foreign entity/stock. Fill out the other info at the top. For the Foreign Entity information selection at the bottom I have the options 'corporation', 'issuer', 'foreign person' and 'foreign address' selected. Put in different values in the state/province and postal code.  Continue and select options for more info and continue. When you return you will see your additional pages (copy 1,2,etc). Select the extra copy page (ie copy 1) that you just added and click edit. Select option 3 saying you need to 'enter both a foreign financial account or an other foreign financial asset on this page'. Click next.

* Bug* - you will see that the postal code and province that was entered on the foreign financial account has been over-written by the postal code and province that was entered on the other financial asset page.

* This bug is different to the original bug given that the other foreign asset postal and province still remain however in this case the province/postal for the first foreign asset values always get overwritten by the postal/province values in the other foreign asset.

Bug 3: I have selected to enter income for 1099-OID, Foreign Accounts.  On the screen that appears 'Miscellaneous investment income' select the 3 middle options - 'Owned or signed on a foreign bankbroker', 'Received a distribution from a foreign trust', 'Were the grantor of or transferor to a foreign trust'. Click next and fill out other info.

* BUG * Whenever I return to edit my 1099-OID/foreign accounts, the option selected on the 'Miscellaneous investment income' page for 'Were the grantor of or transferor to a foreign trust' gets forgotten and I always need to reselect that option.

I completed my filings and can confirm that the workaround to all these bugs is to enter the City, Postal Code and Province data all in the city data entry cell.

When you view the completed tax Form 8938, the data appears correctly by doing this.

It also eFiles properly.

This removes the bug issues related to the extra copy pages for the 8938 that I described in my last post.

Preferably all these bugs should be addressed by Turbo Tax.
