How do I import 2018 tax return from TurboTax online to 2019 TurboTax desktop

Show prior years says I hsve not yet filed a Turbo Tax return and I have used this company for 5 or 6 years.

That's common to end up with multiple accounts. First LOG OUT of whatever TurboTax account you're logged into right now. Then use this TurboTax account recovery website to get a list of user ID's for an email address. Run the tool against any email addresses you may have used

If you used the Desktop CD/Download program then the only copy is on your computer and not saved or stored online.

I was able to replicate this solution but only on the US (.com) site (where I have no existing returns).

Does anyone know how to do it on the Canadian (.ca) site? My 2018 return is there.

In short, I would like to retrieve my 2018 ONLINE return (as a .tt18) so that I can start my 2019 return using the desktop version.

You Transfer from 2018 into a new blank 2019 return.  How did you do 2018?  How/where do you want to do 2019?

Then after you start 2019 you can Import W2s and 1099 forms.

The other answers in this list seem to be correct.  However, when I tried to download my 2018 data, I got the a screen with the following message: (note.... up to 45 days!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

What you are seeing is to get your data that Intuit/TurboTax has concerning your account.  It has nothing to do with your tax return or your tax data files. 

To access your current or prior year tax returns sign onto the TurboTax website with the userID you used to create the account - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/

Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and on the section Your tax returns & documents click on Show.  Click on the Year and Click on Download/print return (PDF) or Download .tax file

I opened my 2018 tax file from Finder (I have a Mac).  Upon opening, it recognized that it the file from from a previous version of Turbotax and transferred the data to a new return.

Note:  When trying to import directly from 2019 Turbotax, the software did not recognize my 2018 tax file as a TXF (.tax2018).

This happens just about every year. My 2T computer dies (after having filed my taxes for 2018) and I get a new one...now I cannot access the AGI from 2018 to file 2019 taxes as it doesn't recognize my signin (which has changed from ????) so IRS does not accept my 2019 taxes. I cannot print the taxes from my printer at home and can't copy it from NEW computer to computer at work.
