How do I enter Minnesota Frontline Worker Pay?

The Minnesota Frontline Worker payment is not covered under the IRS exemption for payments related to general welfare and disaster relief because only frontline workers are eligible for the payment. General welfare and disaster relief payments are paid out to all residents, generally with some income limits.

That’s why it is taxable on your federal return.

To add Minnesota Frontline Worker Pay to federal:

  1. Select Federal in the left column
  2. Tap Wages & Income
  3. Scroll down to Less Common Income
  4. Select Miscellaneous Income, 1099-A, 1099-C
  5. Select Other reportable Income
  6. Say Yes to “Any Other Taxable Income”
  7. On “Other Taxable Income,” enter MN Frontline as the description and the amount

To remove Minnesota Frontline Worker Pay from your MN return:

  1. Continue in Minnesota until you see the screen “Frontline Worker Pay”
  2. Enter the Payment Amount (Do not enter an amount unless the payment was included in your federal income)

How do I enter Minnesota Frontline Worker Pay?

I have done exactly what is on the instructions for entering the MN Frontline Worker Pay. I have called Turbo Tax and talked to a representative, who has seen that I have done exactly what was supposed to be done. But it still will not let me transmitt my return because my Turbotax state somehow does not read that I have entered the $487 on the federal return. It says that I cannot put an amount on the MN Frontline Worker Pay line because I did not enter it on my Federal return...BUT it is entered on my federal return.

I have noticed other people having issues with this. I think it is a Turbotax issue where the MN return is somehow not reading the entry from the federal return. I know this is a special situation that probably will not happen too often. But if I don't have to pay MN taxes on this amount, I shouldn't have to. Is Turbotax looking into this?

How do I enter Minnesota Frontline Worker Pay?

@hawesjp  If you are a MN resident and received MN frontline worker pay, it would not be taxable to WI. You would enter all income not earned in WI under the Non Wisconsin income section.
