There are only rare cases that you can attached a PDF in the TurboTax Software and you will be prompted to attach a PDF, if needed. Did you get a prompt? Which form is this for?
Nashay,
I am having a similar problem with 2020 TurboTax Business. I did the summary capital gains input and when I completed it, turbo tax said I would be prompted at the submission point to attach the 1099-B. But I never got the prompt. It has been submitted and accepted at the federal level. I think TT has a glitch. How can I resubmit and include the attachment? I don't see that ability in the attachment area. Jimbob
You do not need to resubmit and attach the file. Just save a copy for your records. All the IRS needs is the summary amounts that you entered into TurboTax. If the IRS wants the pdf, they will contact you to mail it to them.
I need to attach a pdf file for homestead credit on Wisconsin State return which was transmitted without itl
Upload or mail the needed PDF directly. See Schedule H & H-EZ Instructions, page 5:
When you file electronically, within 48 hours after receiving your Wisconsin acknowledgment you must send all of the required Schedule H or H-EZ attachments along with a completed Form W-RA, Required Attachments for Electronic Filing.
You may either mail the form and attachments to the address listed in the Form W-RA instructions or attach them electronically at https://tap.revenue.wi.gov/WRA/.
For additional information, see the department’s website at revenue.wi.gov or contact any department office.
For more information, see:
Claiming the Wisconsin Homestead Credit, question and answers 2 and 9.
For your future reference, see: Attaching PDF to claim Wisconsin Homestead Credit.
I'm getting the message: Credit Wks: Remaining Credit is claimed for credit code 136, which requires a PDF attachment of Form IT-QRHOE-TP2. Please be sure to attach this by going back into Step for Georgia and revisit the PDF Attachments Section.
When I go back into my Georgia return I don't see a PDF Attachments Section to attach this form. It won't allow me to file without doing this step.
****Update: I found it. It's under "Other Situations" ******
I am trying to attach the signed form 8453, when I click on "Find Electronic copy" there is no pop up window to attach the document, I can see the option on my taskbar, but it does not open to attach the document. This is very frustrating
After much time spent trying to figure this out, I found I had to enter the mapping from my windows file location into line provided by the program for it to locate the document. Even though there is a button "locate" which does not work. If I were not tech savvy as I am, I would never had figured this out, there are many out there who aren't as savvy and this program (especially the cost) should make this process much simpler for the average user. very disappointed
I have a huge number of stock trades on a form 8988 that I can't enter to TurboTax.
Can I just enter the summary as you stated and then prepare to mail this form (a couple of hundreds of pages) to IRS if IRS asks for it?
The other option I'm thinking of is to file an amended 1040x return after 1040 is accepted by e-file and hopefully TurboTax allows me to attach this 8988 form as a PDF attachment when e-filing the amended return. Has anyone done anything to upload/attach a PDF file in e-filing an amended return using TurboTax?
@largib Use form 8453 to send a copy of any supplemental information to the IRS. Don't amend your return just to attach the pdf.
@RobertB4444 As I said, I have over 500 pages of trades to send. If using form 8453, that would require physical mail. So lots of pages to print. I regret to purchase TT Desktop (Mac) and I believe TT online or Proconnect allows you to e-file with PDF attachments of the transactions. I really don't understand why TT made such a decision (not allowing attaching PDFs) while your professional tax software like Proconnect does allow that.
Would you kindly let us know whether TT e-filing 1040x (amended return) allows sending a PDF attachment like form 8949?
Thank you
@largib If you amend the return then you will need to delete the import of the 1099-B and enter only the summary totals provided. At that point you will be able to attach a pdf of your 1099-B.
I am working on some crypto transactions and the software I am using is only giving me an aggregate.txf file to upload. I have a pdf of the 8949 and am using turbotax desktop premiere. Do I/ how can I upload the 8949? I have the summary uploaded to get the amount owed correctly, I am just not sure what do to with the 8949.
Any advice would be hepful! Thanks!
@amdoren Go in the system to the section for entering a 1099-B. I t will ask if you want to upload it - tell it you want to enter summary totals. Enter the amounts from the summary that you have and then it will ask you to attach a pdf of your 1099-B to the return. Attach the pdf of the 8949 at that point.
