The extension form is totally unneeded since it has nothing to do with the actual return and is not attached to the tax return filing. The only thing from that form that is reported on the tax return is any amount you may have paid with the extension and that figure you should have from your bank records.
Here's how to navigate in Online TurboTax to the place to enter the extension payment you made so you get credit for it on your return. If you used TurboTax to file the extension, it *might* be pre populated, but you should check anyway.
Once you have entered the extension payment (or confirmed it if it's pre populated), then before filing verify that you are getting credit for it.
A state extension payment is entered in the same navigation steps as above. If applicable, verify that it appears on the state return prior to filing.
If you're using TurboTax Online, you may experience an issue when printing your 2021 tax return if you also used Easy Extension. When you print, Form 4868 is doesn't populate.
You don’t. Unless you paid and filed your taxes through TT they will not waste the space to save our extensions.
Providing the correct answer to the question asked is usually the right thing to do. When someone asks how do they access something the answer should never be well, You don’t need it anyway.
