Having trouble with filing amended return!

I filed my 2023 taxes on February 1st thinking I received all my tax forms. Unfortunately, I received a 1099-DIV form late and am trying to file an amended return.

My Federal refund was $850 and State refund was $373 on the original return.

I went thru all the steps in Turbotax for the amended return and ran into 3 issues:

1) The 1099-DIV form had federal taxes withheld. As a result, I'm now supposed to get $51 in federal refund. However, the State refund amount didn't change even though State taxes weren't withheld. I'm not sure if this is correct?

2) I e-filed my original return but now TT is telling me I can't e-file my amended return because I didn't e-file my original return. How do I fix this so I can e-file my amended return?

3) The new refund amount (separate from the original refund), after entering the 1099-DIV is $51 (fed). However, TT is now asking me how I want to receive my $901 ($850+$51) refund even though the Federal Refund amount shown in the black box at the top shows $51. This must be a glitch in TT?

Thanks a bunch for helping out!

Having trouble with filing amended return!

If your taxable income is below a certain amount based on your filing status ($44,625 single or $89,250 married/joint), qualified dividends are not taxable on your federal return and often not taxable on your state return, depending on what state you live in. So, that may explain why your state refund didn't change, as the dividend may not be taxable.

It may be too early to file your amended return as your original return may not have been processed. You shouldn't file the amended return until you receive your refund from the original return if you had one.

I'm not sure about the wording in TurboTax, but you will receive only the $51 when you file your amended return.

Having trouble with filing amended return!

My original 2023 return was e-filed and I've received the refund already.

Unfortunately my PC crashed and I lost my Turbotax files and now when I try to e-file my amended return I get a message saying I can't e-file because I didn't e-file the original return even though I did. I'm guessing this is happening because I don't have the original file.

Any way to fix this so I can e-file my amended return?

Thanks.
