@east44dh You need to wait at least 21 days after the tax return was accepted before contacting the IRS for the status of the refund.
After the tax return has been Accepted by the IRS (meaning only that they received the return) it will be in the Processing mode until the tax refund has been Approved and then an Issue Date will be available on the IRS website.
See this IRS website for federal tax refund FAQ's - https://www.irs.gov/refunds/tax-season-refund-frequently-asked-questions
If over 21 days since being Accepted by the IRS and the tax refund is still Processing you can call the IRS and speak with an IRS agent concerning your tax refund.
Call the IRS: 1-800-829-1040 hours 7 AM - 7 PM local time Monday-Friday
When calling the IRS do NOT choose the first option re: "Refund", or it will send you to an automated phone line.
So after first choosing your language, then do NOT choose Option 1 (refund info). Choose option 2 for "personal income tax" instead.
Then press 1 for "form, tax history, or payment".
Then press 3 "for all other questions."
Then press 2 "for all other questions."
- When it asks you to enter your SSN or EIN to access your account information, don't enter anything.
- After it asks twice, you will get another menu.
Press 2 for personal or individual tax questions.
Then press 3 for all other inquiries
It should then transfer you to an agent
I filed 2/19. It was accepted. But refund still not approved and it is day #19. Got my state refund weeks ago. Starting to get worried. Taking forever to get refund approved. Anyone else in same situation.
Yep - same problem here - I file 2/20 and it was finally accepted by the IRS however my taxes have not been approved. Form 8960 is still a big problem but it is an IRS problem not Turbo Tax. My guess (only a guess) is that the IRS decided to accept the returns while they figure out a way to fix the software glitch internally. I remember earlier posts that said the IRS fixed would be late February to mid March. I am thinking 🤔 maybe sometime this month.
I had the same rejection problem until around the 2/20 time period. Filed both returns and received my California state refund on 2/28 and my IRS refund on 3/3. I filed with an 8960 form. It may be that there are more people filing now and the system is beginning to slow due to volume.
Exactly the same. State refund was fast, still not action from the IRS
Refunds usually take about 21 days after the IRS has accepted your e-filed return. If the IRS has accepted your e-filed return, you can continue to check the status of your refund by going directly to: https://www.irs.gov/refunds
Same place as you , keep in touch .
Late yesterday (18 days after filing) my bank said the refund will be deposited on Wednesday the 15th - 2 days beyond 21. The IRS app this morning said my refund has been approved. Great news
I efiled on the 21st , state refund already deposited .Still not 21 days yet so not panicky yet.
It’s official, 22 days since my return. Accepted on Feb 19. Got state refund on 2/27. 22 days and federal refund still not approved. Accepted but no approved. Wonder how many are struggling with this. Never had this issue before.
The 21-day timing is approximate, it can take longer depending on your situation. Please keep an eye on the Where's My Refund tool for updates on your refund. @Hermitcrabaz
Tried e-filing on February 12th but 8960 error occurred. E-filed again on 21st - received state tax return on March 3rd; Regarding federal return- it just got updated today that it has been approved and refund is scheduled to be sent to my bank on March 15th.
Great to hear you have an update on yours! @vish1020
I finally e-filed on February 27th and my return is still processing. I'm owed quite a hefty refund and am getting a little nervous. My return got rejected a few times as well before they fixed the glitch. For those of you who have received your refund, how long has it been taking??
State refund was deposited in 2 weeks and I carried over my Fed refund. You need to give it at least 3 weeks to let the Feds process your return and the closer it gets to mid April, the longer those who file will have to wait for refunds. After 21 days you can call the IRS but expect seriously long hold times even if you manage to get through.
