Form 8915-F is available from the IRS but It is not available in turbo tax online. Why and when will it be available?

It's in the Federal update today - I was able to file today, finally!

Its not, shame on Turbotax.  If not available by next Thursday, I'm filing HR Block.

Form 8915-F is available from the IRS but It is not available in turbo tax online. Why and when will it be available?

David  - it's there in the latest update.  Interestingly, H&R Block has decided to not make it available at all in their desktop versions for 2021 requiring that if needed the tax filer has to go into one of their offices to file.

I wish I'd read your reply before I stumbled through everything yesterday - I figured it out but it wasn't very intuitive or user friendly.  Thanks for you post and information.

Nowhere does it ask me about the 8915f.  This is year two of my three year tax payment. That question does not appear and there is no form under early withdrawal. The 1099-R does not show anything either.  I am using the online program.  Please advise.

You will not be asked specifically about the Form 8915-F.  You only need to enter the information requested if you selected to have the 2020 distribution spread over three years.

Go to the Retirement Income section for a Form 1099-R.

Form 8915-F is available from the IRS but It is not available in turbo tax online. Why and when will it be available?

I did...When I press enter 1099R, "Add 1099R" it wants you to put an institution...I choose enter it manually, then it sends me to a blank form. Nowhere does it ask me or say anything about economic disaster.

I'm sorry but I am not familiar with the online version - I am using the desktop version and after yesterday's update, during the interview regarding income from retirement programs, the interview asked me if I took a coronavirus related disaster withdrawal in 2020 to which I answered yes then it moved to questions that allowed me to complete the form 8915-F.  For the "how to" flow chart in the software the other post by DoninGA in this thread from this morning did an excellent job detailing how to get to it - I clunked through it on my own yesterday and figured it out.

I am in the exact same situation as you in the second year of the three year distribution and this worked. Don't waste your time with the TaxCut software they have decided NOT to include the 8915-F for 2021. Again, I can't speak to the Turbotax online version.

Did you receive a Form 1099-R for tax year 2021?  If not, then when asked if you have a 2021 Form 1099-R you should answer NO.

Form 8915-F is available from the IRS but It is not available in turbo tax online. Why and when will it be available?

No, we entered the 1099-R in 2020 for the distribution and chose three years.  Now the 2021 online version does not allow me to answer a question yes or no...It just wants me to add a new 1099-R which I do not have.

The for 8915F is not even in the Tools menu, so the form is not even available in the online format. I am not re-entering the entire tax return in a walmart desktop version I have to pay for...Where outside of Turbotax should I file?  Turbotax is an online failure.

This can all be corrected without you needing to re-enter or clear your tax return.

If you started a Form 1099-R, it can be deleted.

Click on Tax Tools on the left side of the online program screen

Click on Tools

Click on Delete a form

Once the form 1099-R has been deleted then go back to the Retirement Income section for a Form 1099-R.

Enter 1099-r in the Search box located in the upper right of the program screen. Click on Jump to 1099-R

On the screen Did you get a 1099-R in 2021? Click on NO

Answer Yes when asked Have you ever taken a disaster distribution before 2021?

Form 8915-F is available from the IRS but It is not available in turbo tax online. Why and when will it be available?

You are cutting and pasting desktop turbotax info.  There is no 1099-R to delete, I backed out.  It does not allow me to revisit or add anything in there.  There is no tools tab, but a link to topic search that makes no sense.

The TurboTax website indicates that the 8915-F is available for both the online and desktop versions:

https://care-cdn.prodsupportsite.a.intuit.com/forms-availability/turbotax_fed_online_individual.html

DoninGA flow chart appears to be accurate for both versions.  You may need to open a chat with the tech support team to walk you through it.  It should work.

If you do not have a Form 1099-R to delete then when you start in the 1099-R section and are asked if you have a 2021 Form 1099-R then just answer NO and continue.

Those are my instructions and not a cut and paste.  They were originally for the online editions but can be used in either the online or desktop programs.
