Form 8915 can not be removed from final return.

It cleared up on its own. Several hours in chats on multiple occasions with TT reps did nothing.  Had me redoing the same steps over and over again. Worst customer service ever.

Form 8915 can not be removed from final return.

Same happened to me. I had to delete all of my husbands 1099-R forms. I saved return after each deletion then went to file and it was ready to file. I reentered each 1099-R and checked to see if it would get to the ready to file screen and each time it did.

Bottom line: delete all 1099-R's.

hawthorne-locket:  I feel your pain.  I am having the same issue.  I never (ever) requested disaster plan distribution.

Bb1111:  you noted you are having the same problem.  Has it been resolved?  If yes how was it resolved?

  5. Answer Yes to the Have you ever taken a disaster distribution before 2022? screen
  6. Answer Yes to Did you take a 2020 Qualified Disaster Distribution?
  7. Uncheck the box next to "If this was a Coronavirus-related distribution reported in 2020 check here" and click continue
  8. On the Which disaster affected you in 2020? screen I selected the blank entry and click Back
  9. Then recheck the box next to "If this was a Coronavirus-related distribution reported in 2020 check here" and continue.

Form 8915 can not be removed from final return.

JulieS.

Thank you so much for your analysis and reply.  I see two issues with your suggestion, both stemming from the fact that I have never taken a disaster distribution for coronavirus or any other reason:

1.  that screen at the end that starts "I attest that the information is true to the best of my knowledge....." and

2.  Given the facts, isn't your suggestion tax fraud?

Here's my latest workaround thoughts:  I'm told e-filing is the fastest way for returns to be processed, speeding up the receipt of a refund check.  Since I owe money, I'm thinking about printing the appropriate forms and mailing them in along with my check.  After that, I really don't care how long it takes the IRS to process my return.....

Good morning.

I am a TT Product Expert... I'm so sorry for the bad customer service and not having a fix... but I found one today, for the desktop software at least!

The 8915FS worksheet will not allow you to delete it.  However, following some of the tips in this thread, we were able to delete all the 1099Rs. Then on the forms mode, you you have to enter the 8915ES worksheet, and there you can see the questions "did you receive a disaster distribution".  Here you can click the box to unmark the option, and it will remove both of the form 8915s!!  Happy Taxing!!!

Can you clarify if you received a 1099-R and the distribution was not a disaster distribution, or did you not receive a 1099-R at all, and the 8915 is populating without any sort of 1099-R income?

I've got the same issue. I've been using TT for years and this software seems to be getting more problematic. Time to make a change from TT.

If you are seeing references to IRS form 8915-F in your tax return and you want to remove the form, Delete a form does not always work.

In TurboTax Online, you may remove the form by:

  • Down the left side of the screen, click on Tax Tools.
  • Click on Tools.
  • Click on Delete a form.
  • Find the form listed and click Delete to the right.

However, if the form re-generates, that means that there is an entry in the software that needs to be removed or changed.

If this is the case, return back to the point in the software where the questions that populate the form are asked.

Please try the following steps if you are using TurboTax Online to see if the error message will clear:

  • Go to Federal on the left side of the screen
  • Go to Wages & Income on the left side of the screen
  • Scroll to the bottom of the section without making any changes and click Done with Income or Wrap Up Income
  • Continue moving forward until you see a question about whether you took a disaster distribution in 2020 and select 'No'.
  • Continue through to the end of the return.
  • Run the Federal Review again to see if the error has cleared.

Let us know at @JamesG1 if this works for you.

This solution did not work.  I've spoken to two people with this issue today and both of them had Macs.

Form 8915 can not be removed from final return.

I'm having the same issue and I cannot e-file my returns without it.  I've said no to the 8915 and it still doesn't go away.  I'm so frustrated!!!!

This needs to be taken out of TT until it is fixed!  If we do not need the 8915 we should be able to file!

Form 8915 can not be removed from final return.

Here is a workaround provided by expert DanaB27 that is working-

Be sure to follow the instructions carefully. Try both options if necessary.

Please try these steps to fix the rejection issue:

  1. Login to your TurboTax Account
  2. Click on the "Search" on the top and type “1099-R”
  3. Click on “Jump to 1099-R”
  4. If you do not have any 2022 1099-R, answer "No" to "Did you get a 1099-R in 2022?" (If you have any other 1099-R, then enter all 1099-R and after entering your last 1099-R, click "Continue" on the “Review your 1099-R info ” screen)
  5. Answer "Yes" to the "Have you ever taken a disaster distribution before 2022?" screen
  6. Answer "Yes" to "Did you take a 2020 Qualified Disaster Distribution?"
  7. Uncheck the box next to "If this was a Coronavirus-related distribution reported in 2020 check here" and click continue
  8. On the "Which disaster affected you in 2020?" screen, I selected the blank entry and clicked "back
  9. Then recheck the box next to "If this was a Coronavirus-related distribution reported in 2020, check here" and continue.

Another option is to delete "Form 8915-F" and "Qualified 2020 Disaster Retirement Distr" and then go back to the retirement section and reenter the information:

  1. Open or continue your return in TurboTax.
  2. Select "Tax Tools" and then "Tools" in the left menu.
  3. In the pop-up window Tool Center, select "Delete a form".
  4. Select "Delete" next to "Form 8915-F" and "Qualified 2020 Disaster Retirement Distr" and follow the instructions.
  5. Click on the "Search" on the top and type “1099-R”
  6. Click on “Jump to 1099-R”
  7. If you do not have any 2022 1099-R, answer "No" to "Did you get a 1099-R in 2022?" (If you have any other 1099-R, then enter all 1099-R, and after entering your last 1099-R, click "Continue" on the “Review your 1099-R info ” screen)
  8. Answer "Yes" to the "Have you ever taken a disaster distribution before 2022?" screen
  9. Answer "Yes" to "Did you take a 2020 Qualified Disaster Distribution?"
  10. Check the box next to "If this was a Coronavirus-related distribution reported in 2020, check here" and enter your information.

Form 8915 can not be removed from final return.

Mr MDR,

I did not follow the instructions provided by JamesG1.  Since I owed money to the IRS I simply printed the forms needed to file, removed form 8915 and mailed my return along with my check.   Since I was not getting a refund, there was little advantage of filing electronically.
