Form 8879

I am filing my 2021 taxes late and it is asking me for my adjusted gross income from 2020. I filed my taxes with someone last year and they used form 8879. I see that the adjusted gross income is on Line 1 of form 8879 but when I put that number in to file for my 2021 taxes I got it sent back. Am I supposed to add another line to line to get the total or what's going on?

Form 8879

Line 1 of the 2020 Form 8879 should be the same as the Adjusted Gross Income on your Federal tax return Form 1040 Line 11 for tax year 2020.  Verify that the 2020 AGI is correct from your 2020 federal tax return.

If the IRS is rejecting this return for the 2020 AGI there is a possibility that the IRS does not have your 2020 AGI in their database.

Enter a 0 (zero) for the 2020 AGI and e-file the 2021 tax return again.

Form 8879

Thanks so much!!

Form 8879

you don't file form 8879 in 2021. that's only for independent paid preparers who e-file a client's return. it gives the preparer authoriztion to e-file.

when Turbotax asks for your prior AGI use the amount from part 1 line 1 of the 8879 which should match the 2020 1040 return line  11.

if you filed after 10/15/2021 use zero instead.

if that doesn't work go back and see if you can indicate you didn't file last year

if nothing works you'll have to mail in your return.
