This year more privacy invasions from turbotax. See the below email. Although filers may want to print and mail and keep all of their information private and away companies like turbotax, they have decided that your privacy is less important than intuits bottom line.
"Hi there,
We’re reaching out to our TurboTax Desktop customers to share an important change to how you’ll install and activate your software this upcoming 2023 tax season.
To install and activate TurboTax 2023 on your computer, you’ll be prompted to sign into your existing intuit account (or create an account if you don’t already have one) before entering your license code. The software won't install unless you sign in to your Intuit Account online. Importantly, your product license code can only be associated with one Intuit Account. "
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
It seems likely that this does not result in any meaningful collection of personally identifiable information but is instead intended to reduce the viability of bootleg copies of TurboTax registration codes.
So your email address (which is linked via data brokers to almost everything) is not meaningful? The product code which is linked to what you may choose to electronically submit to the government your taxes is not meaningful? There is no thought for privacy. Only for money.
One can easily create an alternate email address not used for any other purpose.
