Federal & State Filing Extension for California

Good day. I live in one of the affected California counties (El Dorado) but I personally was not affected by the winter storms. Do I qualify for the October 16th extension and is there anything special I need to do on TurboTax to account for this?

Lastly, do I actually need to file an extension or as long as I file before October 16th, I am fine?

Yes, as long as you file by October 16, 2023, you do not need to file an extension or pay your tax due. This applies to both your state and federal taxes.

Thank you. Just to clarify. This applies regardless if you were affected? As long as you live in the affected counties?

Yes, if you live in the affected counties, the extension applies to you. You can still file the extension if you choose using the link provided below:

Thank you for the clarification. You mention I could still file an extension. Would I need to?

No, you don't need to file an Extension.  If you live if an affected Disaster Area, the filing deadline is automatically extended for you.

Here's more detailed info from the IRS.
