Me and my wife are over 55 and have a high deductible family plan. I contributed $5385 to our HSA this year. I answered all the questions correctly but tubotax said i over paid my hsa and doesn't take in account the family plan that allows like $7750 for me and my wife. turbotax wants to tax me on the excess of $2,020. The program is wrong and needs to be corrected.

It seems that you made your HSA contributions through your employer and have mistakenly reported these as being a personal contributions. Enter amounts shown in box 12 of your W-2 only in box 12 of TurboTax's W-2 form, nowhere else in TurboTax. The IRS considers contributions made through your employer to be employer contributions, not personal contributions, because the employer excludes these from the amount in box 1 of your W-2.
thanks this worked.
