I tried download 1099 tax data from Etrade to Turbotax after work today and it also failed to download with the same message as before, Etrade specialist said it should be OK today if not call him back, too late to call today but I will call on Monday. Here is the direct # given to me by Etrade specialist to call in case [phone number removed].
I had no problems importing data from Fidelity. Schedule D populated correctly and form 1116 also completed automatically with no problems.
Thank you for continuing to call!! Sadly, Turbotax removed Etrade contact number. Maybe TURBOTAX will be PROACTIVE and call ETRADE for us to discuss the ISSUE. We have pages and pages of stock transactions! Astonished that Turbotax can't dovetail its tax software with Etrade. Don't want to and Should NOT need to attach or send in separately our entire 1099B!! Want to make sure it's transferred & calculated correctly. Turbotax was up to the task last year. It's astonishing that they haven't fixed this yet w/Etrade. -Frustrated Tax Professional w/Masters in Tax from Top 3 University
TaxMaster1988. You are right about the frustration on TurboTax not to proactively helping the issue with 1099 download from E-trade, when I fist call E-trade the rep said it was Turbotax he he was aware with the problem, but I told him I have 3 accounts with etrade and 2 sign in user ID, 1 of them download without issues but the one I use for my day trade wasn't, se he forward me to tech support specialist. I am breaking the # in 2 part so the robot may not catch it.. if you can combine them 87792, I have many transaction during the year and it would take me atleast a week to manually enter, 12434 hope this will help and I will call Etrade on Monday to see why I still can't download my 1099, I owned the IRS so there is no hurry to file but wanted it to be done before tax day
You must select E*TRADE Securities and make sure to put in " * " after the E when searching for the financial institution.
This error occurs with the selection of "E*TRADE from Morgan Stanley (Bank Accounts)", but is incorrect for 1099 brokerage. Good luck!
Thanks for the suggestion. Tried all 3 Etrade options repeatedly Day 1, when the correct option that should have worked, didn't. NONE work.
Thanks for calling E*Trade to find out the answer. Today is 3/23, I still can't download my 1099B. E*Trade does have 1099 Int available to download, but not 1099B.
I called E*Trade on Monday and Tuesday this week and spent >1hr on the phone with them but the issue is not resolved, the tech specialist at Etrade said he will call me back if they find the solution for the 1099 import issue to TurboTax, I have 2 accounts at E*trde and only has a problem import from 1 account that has a 1099 Consolidated Correction (corrected 3/09/2022), the other account has a regular 1099 Consolidated file ( the consolidated file included 1099B, 1099-DIV..etc). We need to call E*Trade customer service and ask them to transfer you to a tech specialist and talk to them, it would take about 30 minutes to get to those specialist but the more we call the more resources they would put in to work on this issue so we can have this problem fix sooner. I will update if I get a call back from E*Trade.
I am assuming we can't import from Etrade if there are a certain amount of trades on a form. But of course no one will tell you this, what the threshold is. Instead we are just wasting our time on software we already bought.
Any progress Phan? We have attempted to download Stock Sale Capital Gain info on a daily basis. We know we have massive Capital Gains, but Turbotax is still 'unable to find any tax related info' in our Etrade account. Seriously??! Would so appreciate it if Turbotax would reach out to Etrade regarding Turbotax's INABILITY to download Etrade 1099B ASAP!!
I am still not able to import my 1099 from Etrade to TurboTax, I called again this morning and they seem to have no ideal what is the issue, the rep also blame TurboTax for it but I was able to import 1099 from another Etrade account, so it is not Turbotax. Etrade also update my physical address saying that sometimes it would prevent turbotax import, after they did that I still haven't able to import my 1099 to turbotax, very frustrated
Was getting the same Failed To Import message when I tried to go through E*TRADE from Morgan Stanley (Bank Accounts). As MsDarling suggested above, just type in E* and select E*TRADE SECURITIES and both of my accounts 1099s downloaded into TT in seconds!
The previous problem (at least in my case) was related to trying to download from the Morgan Stanley (Bank Accounts) location and NOT the number of transactions. In fact, once I connected through E*TRADE SECURITIES, it gave me a warning that I had over 1000 transactions but still downloaded with no problems:
Good Luck! 😎
Thanks TheBeaz, for the update. I also use E*Trade Securities to login and import 1099 but I have a different issue than what you have, I tried both Etrade login option and none work, I have a 1099 consolidated correction in one of my Etrade account and that one gave me problem, the other Etrade account without 1099 correction form imported without any problem, after this tax year I am going to move money out of Etrade. Too many problem after they merged with MS.
I just tried to download my 1099 B from “E*TRADE Morgan Stanley (Bank Account)” and my 1099 B finally downloaded.
These are not bank account transactions, why would it be labeled as such?
Glad I did not have to input all the transactions line by line.
Tried Again & Again all 3 Etrades listed on pull-down menu and none have any tax related info, even though we have pages of stock sale & 6 figure CGs!! WTH??! - 3 Decade long Turbotax customer/ CPA/ Masters in Tax from Top 3 Accounting University. Beyond FRUSTRATED!! TURBOTAX is the WORST!!
