Notwithstanding the express language on the TurboTax website that says your credit card will not be charged until the IRS accepts your return, my credit card was immediately charged when I submitted my tax return. Three hours passed, and the IRS rejected my return (non-matching AGI even though it matches what is on my IRS transcript), and the US TREASURY credit card charge has already been processed (not pending). What are my options? I can print and mail my return, but should I send in double payment and trust the IRS will sort it out? We are not talking about an insignificant amount of money.
*after digging around the forums I have found at least two instances in the past year where the exact same problem/error occurred -- unfortunately, the TurboTax responses were less than helpful. I hope someone can give me some advice on how to proceed.

To be clear, I'm referring to my tax bill payment. That is what has been immediately charged. I am not referring to the payment for the TurboTax service-- obviously that is charged immediately.
Really its to your advantage that you've paid the IRS. Change your return and show a payment for the date the card was changed - which should mean that your balance would be zero. Then the problem is getting the return to file. Its my uniformed opinion that TT has had a bunch of returns that wouldn't file due to AGI, and there is a glitch in the background. Your return needs to be postmarked tomorrow 4/18 to avoid the failure tot file penalty (only an issue when you owe). If you can get it to file electronically after mailing, it will be ok. But, I doubt you can get TT to solve the mismatched AGI problem....
Thanks!
Hey! Can I know what did you do last year? Did the charge drop off?
You are responding to an old post. Do you have a question that we can assist you with?
Yes! Same issue, I used two different credit cards for two times that filed and both time the return got rejected but both cards have the due amount return on them as pending charges "US Treasury" and with the transaction fee! I couldn't file with Turbo and ended up filling with another source and got IRS approval from that source.
my question is what will happen to those pending charges? All the returns i filed with Turbo got rejected.
The charge ended up dropping after a week or so (the cc was a discover). I hope everything works out for you!
This also happened to me. I fixed to error and wad asked to submit a new payment method. I didn't have enough money in my bank account to process my return a second time. I had to make the other payment with my credit card in order to make sure I paid by the 18th, tomorrow. I now have 2 pending transactions, one at my bank and the other on a credit card. I have been using Turbo Tax for 10 or more years. This one issue will dissolve my business with them. They get there money and I get F***ed.
Still an issue - They say its an IRS issue but clearly nothing showing in IRS since they rejected and I was charged within 30secs of filing
@Sk99 I’m having the same issue. Did your charge eventually drop off? Thanks!
I'm curious too on this... we have had issues with the ID.me thing, my wife and I got our's sorted out last year but found out my mom's was the issue. She had her identity stolen nearly 20 years ago now and since I care for her, I started adding her as a dependent. Ever since, I can't e-file. It all started with the 'pin' you have to put in and it was always 'make up a pin.' We did this for years with no problems but since claiming her on my taxes, we couldn't e-file. Long story longer... we can't seem to get her ID.me pin because she's had a stroke 15 years ago and has trouble remembering things so every time she was asked questions, she answered them best she knew and they kicked it back. They want to do a phone interview and I'm not sure I want my 76 yr old stroked out mom to have to go through the grilling. Well, TT pushed me to file e-file because I wanted to pay by CC. The CC payment went through, but of course we were rejected. Now I'm stuck lol... I really don't want to stroke this check, but I don't want to be penalized either, nor do I want to pay twice... tsk tsk what to do.... clocks ticking...
If your Efile is Rejected, you won't have to pay to Efile again.
What was the error message you received?
An option would be to remove her as a dependent ($500 difference) and Efile now, then Amend by mail later and add her.
If you're using TurboTax Online, clear your Cache and Cookies before efiling again.
Ty that's a great option! I'm going to do a short term payment plan, wait until the dust settles, and make the payment online. I appreciate you!
