Very important note: if you have been computing for awhile, you should know ALWAYS BACKUP before starting any major undertaking. This may entail ghosting your drive, just updating important files, or making sure you have the necessary software to re-install. If new, above also applies !
Sorry, I meant backing up important files, not updating.
Right! Rufus has been the standby for years. And, while I did do one box with Windows 11, specifically and only for Turbo Tax, I am still extremely concerned for my privacy.
I do not trust Microsoft any further than I can throw their server farm.
There have been several 'flaws', which I believe have been intentionally planted in the code.
They are slowly closing every avenue for creating a local account, there is no way anyone, even an IT expert, can keep track of all that Microsoft is doing behind the scenes during an update.
What happens if they turn off your local account and turn on Bit Locker without your knowledge. Or what, that has actually happened to a user, logged in with the Microsoft account to get updates and during the update Bit Locker got turned on. He did not command it and he did have a key! He lost 3TB! Irrevocably lost.
All because Microsoft thinks they know better!
Thanks, but i already know about Rufus. That's what I used to create my VM along with Oracle VB.
FYI.
H&R Block is showing pre-ordering and system requirements shows Windows 10 and above.

Maybe TT will match them.
Unfortunately, not only hackers are making everyone's life miserable (If not draining their bank accounts !), but lots of companies are compiling all kinds of info on you! Example - I had to create an account with a company - after submitting the requirements, I was presented with the last 20 years of my life 30 seconds later !!!! What ?? So much for privacy - privacy is living in the backwoods, no neighbours and computing offline - like this is going to happen !
Issues with Windows 11 24H2 and 25H2 now having the following showing up:
Now what ? Google re problems with KB5066835 and KB5065789. Issues arising causing system coming up with the following message:
Something didn't go as planned. No need to worry. Re-boot.
Microsoft working on the problem. Hopefully, will be fixed before Tax Season requirements for Windows 11!!

Those are data brokers and they know virtually everything about you. However, you can opt out of most all of the sites that display personal info either by yourself or paying a small fee to a company that does that for you, like https://easyoptouts.com
@id453 Intuit likely doesn't care at this point what HRB is doing, these are decisions many months in the making for s/w to be released in a few weeks. See 2025 tab for published system requirements.

There is no reason to end support on windows 10 just because microsoft stopped support. I've been using turbo tax on windows 10 without any support for over 5 years. I've been using windows 10 and never updated it for over 5 years so it's like windows 10 support ended for me over 5 years ago and was using tt for that time without any problem!

They don't have to give us a reason, rational or otherwise; they can just do it.
The fact is that we won't really know for certain whether the products will install and run on Windows 10 until they are released (and some folks actually give it a shot). Officially, Windows 10 is not supported, but that does not necessarily mean the products will absolutely not run on that OS.
I just got a message from Keela Robinson, VP TT dated October 20, 2025 which states the following from the next to last paragraph:
"Plus, we’re providing a special offer to our desktop customers: If you purchase TurboTax Desktop for tax year 2025 and cannot install it on Windows 10, we have you covered. You will receive an in-product offer to switch to our TurboTax Online Premium service at no additional cost (includes one federal and one state return)."
Maybe worth a try? Any thoughts, anyone?
@Bobbo00 no doubt when Turbo 2025 comes out there will people trying to install it on Win 10 and sharing success or hacks.
But it seems odd that a VP from Intuit would tell you it should work or you can get online for free (fwiw), while simultaneously sending out other emails to folks reminding them that it won't work and they need to upgrade:
https://www.reddit.com/r/TurboTax/comments/1odeaqw/got_this_email_from_intuit_about_windows_11/
Either way you are covered, they usually offer 60 day money back on desktop s/w but check details
That's fine.
But, does that include 5 Federal tax returns and the "What If".
Most likely not, since they are not included in the online product.
What I like to do is do a test file for the upcoming year. You can not do that with your online
return account.
Now I maybe wrong.
Someone will correct me on the above.
May end up at H&R Block as they show Windows 10 compatibility, if I want stay with the desktop version.
If I do go with an online service I may go with FreeTaxUSA.
Right, Online is only good for 1 return per account. You can log in and access your return from any computer. You only can see the forms after you pay and download the pdf. And you might need to upgrade to a higher version to enter different kinds of income. There are 3 Online versions. And you can add LIVE service or Full Service for expert help. In Online the fees are to prepare the federal and state returns (State is a separate charge) whether you efile or print and mail. Efiling is free and included.
To plan for next year in the Online version you can go though the Estimate section. Click on Add A State to let you back into your return, Be very careful not to change any of your actual current return. Or you can set up another account to test in. You don't have to pay unless you want to print it out. You can use the same email address for 5 accounts.
