Decedent passed Oct. 2021. The house was sold June 2022. The estate is still in process as there are taxes and other things not settled yet.
I'm doing the estate income tax return and when I try to enter the info from 1099-S for the house sale, it says "the date of sale is not within the tax year of 10/1/2022 to 9/30/2023. I m at a complete loss here. There is other income to report for TY 2022 [INT, DIV, etc.]
Also: There are several beneficiaries and the estate should wrap up within the next couple of months, so now I'm not sure if I have to file another estate tax return next year? Or just the beneficiaries have to claim their inheritance next year? But I do not need to do the K1 thing yet if the beneficiaries have not received anything to date?
I appreciate any help. I've been using TT for years and this estate stuff has me a mess.

Was there any income or gain prior to June of 2022 when the house was sold?
If not, and assuming this is the first return you are filing for the estate, you could select a fiscal year that begins June 1, 2022 and ends May 31, 2023. Doing so might give you sufficient time to wind up the estate.

It looks like you probably selected the wrong dates for the fiscal year.
So, that makes sense. Except I did not put anything in, anywhere, for a fiscal year. I tried going back to the start and do not see an option where it asks for it.... and even looking for it in questions on the TT software I get no results for this.
How would I change it?
General Info tab and then About Your Trust or Estate.
Champ, thank you so much!
I did not see that when I went through it.
Not sure why it didn't come up in all the help options, but thankfully all of you here were very helpful.
