you can still mail your returns. some states do require e-filing. A state requirement, if followed to e-file would require e-filing your federal. At least that was the case last year.
I think the competitor has also discontinued CDs so they will get your personal info.
@dl01 The Download is EXACTLY the same as the CD. You can still buy the Desktop download from third parties like Costco, Staples, Sams, Walmart, Amazon etc. You can print and mail federal and state returns as before without paying for the state efile.
You can burn the installation file to a CD or save to a usb flash drive. But since you now have to log into an Intuit Account all your downloads and licenses are listed there (even if you bought it from somewhere else) so if you need to download to install it again or install on another computer, even on the other operating system (Windows, Mac).
Indeed. Totally agree, but cant find CD anywhere as of 12/18/24 - so we may be out of luck. Hated the way they made you login to intuit to register 2023 version also. Why do they play games every few years? Might be time to start using a different software. Each competitor I have read into states they will import a TT file to their software.
If you find another program let us know.
Your point is understood and obvious. Wanting the CD in hand and on our shelf is our point.
Excellent point/post. It really is that simple, gimme my CD! Right 🙂
OUCH. Install a XANAX and a DOUBLE VODKA into your stomach my fellow TT fan, : )
I use desktop and can download the installation file which since I have a CD drive can be burned to one or I can store it on a flash drive. Nither will be of any use in 3 to 4 years since Turbotax stops support at that time
I am more comfortable with using CD's to download software. Also I am concerned on what to do if my hard drive goes down unexpectedly and I lose the program that was downloaded. If I have the CD doesn't that allow me to get the Turbotax for a particular year? Will Turbotax keep the past years programs and allow me access to download it again at a later date. May be for Audit purposes.
@dwainewcarlson Since you now have to log into an Intuit Account when you first install it, all your downloads and licenses are listed there (even if you bought it from somewhere else) so if you need to install it again or install on another computer, even on the other operating system (Windows, Mac) you can download it again.
But even if you have the CDs you won’t be able to reinstall 2020 or prior. They only support the last 3 years. And the License Code started in 2019. So 2019 and 2020 needs to connect to Turbo Tax to verify the License Code. But they only support the last 3 years. So you can’t install and activate 2020 and prior (then add a year going forward).
And if you do get 2018 and prior installed you won’t be able to update it or download any state programs. So you should save all your returns to a pdf file with all the worksheets. Open each year and save them now if you haven’t already.
I have been a TurboTax customer for years. I agree with you 100% that a CD version of TurboTax must be available. I have had trouble in the past downloading TurboTax into my laptop and I do not want to possibly go through that again. Their move to discontinue TurboTax CDS is just plain stupid and shortsighted. Charge a couple more dollars if they have to for a version that would include a CD, but they should not be eliminating the CDS completely.
I am with you on this one. I definitely need the CD version.
What if you end up upgrading you PC/Laptop and have to re-install?
Right, having the CD this will be Hussle less
Denny, why do you have to personally "blaine" on tagteam for expressing an opinion? Wow
Xanax and vodka for you, too! 9.95 plan
You have to purchase the download to get your key before you can purchase the CD.
