How did you pay the taxes owed? Check, direct debit from a bank account or by credit card? Do you have proof of payment?
direct debit from bank account -- YES I have proof of the debit from my bank account
Do they say you didn't pay the tax or that you owe more? Send them a copy of your bank debit showing the payment coming out.
I made payment in April & filed extension, October 17, I finalized using TurboTax & paid that amount, but on the 1st page of CP23 form under Amount Due it shows payments I made = correct amount, Tax you owed is $300+ more, although under Your Tax calculations - it shows MY calculations = SAME as IRS calculations (Adjusted gross income line 11; taxable income (line 15) ... they say I owe by Nov 28th! A guy from Turbo helped me request 2 different versions of Tax forms on IRS website, but I don't remember what 'versions' they were. SINCE my tax amount owed was less than $1000, I did not have to pay "estimated taxes" is what I read ... correct??
he problem as I found out talking to TurboTax AND IRS is that line 26 of 1040-SR is contracting words: It states "2021 estimated tax payments and amount applied from 2020 taxes" .. SO I entered amount I paid for 2020 which was wrong, that stmt was looking for "refund in 2020 applied to 2021 taxes" ... IRS BADLY WORDED that someone needs to confront from TurboTax!!!!! PLZ ... I've sent in a 843 form abatement with a description ... LET'S work together to get MORE clear stmts from IRS!!!!
Line 26 seems very clear.......amount applied from 2020 return. It doesn't say amount paid on 2020 or refunded. Look at your 2020 return line 36.
