Charitable contribution Special Rule

We are MFJ and taking the standard deduction.  We made almost $4,000 in charitable cash donations which I itemized on Schedule A.  I am trying to get Turbo Tax to allow the additional $600 deduction for couples.  The review keeps changing it back to the Single Filers $300 allowance.  How can I finish and file without overpaying?

Try deleting the deduction on your deductions and when you are doing the final review enter the $600. Do not have the program recheck your return after you do that and see if the $600 stuck.

Thank you, Champ.  I had already shoehorned it in that way before finding more suggestions including yours. Yours is the best solution, but we should not have to do that when we pay for a tax program.  Fix this Turbo Tax!  My return was accepted within about one hour with the proper $600 credit.  The other suggestions of deleting my charitable contributions were not attractive to me as I have a long list (at least one dozen) and I need this to pass through for my state of Oregon return.  With the entry for charitable deductions, the filer has to enter addresses and get info inserted properly in worksheets to flow to Schedule A.  Too unwieldy to just delete and try to re-enter for state.  And then you are not filing the SAME return for federal and state.

BTW Oregon filers, Turbo Tax has a flaw with Oregon returns concerning stimulus payments.  My Oregon return was rejected.  That has never happened.  I was advised by Turbo Tax that this will be fixed by Feb. 17.
