I am trying to find out if there is a way to efile and still include the required clergy worksheet that I must fill out (found in the back of Pub 517). Based upon this worksheet (and the instructions in Pub 517), I must also override expenses in Schedule C (since my housing allowance is nontaxable). I have always paper filed with the additional clergy worksheet and the required asterisk and note on Schedule C, but last year the IRS failed to key in my new dependent and I'm still waiting for it to be corrected. Turbotax always prompts me to efile and doesn't ask about the worksheet...I believe this is an oversight on their part. I'd like to avoid further mistakes and efile if possible. Is there a way to add worksheets to the efile? Thanks!

there is no provision for including additional worksheets in an e-file return. however, these are worksheets. I find nothing in the instructions that require you to include them in your return. if the IRS wanted them they would have made them a form or schedule or clearly stated they must be included with your return. It is possible I missed something in the instructions so if you believe that the instructions require you to file the worksheets perhaps you can point out the page number.
Thanks for your response! I posted on an old thread and wasn't sure if it would be seen so I asked this question as well.
Your response got me hopeful, so I double checked...Perhaps it's only certain situations for clergy (that we have), but Publication 517, page 10 (of 2020, since 2021 isn't out yet), bottom of the middle column, says:
Required statement. If you receive a tax-free rental or parsonage allowance and have ministerial expenses, attach a statement to your tax return. The statement must contain all of the following information.
• A list of each item of taxable ministerial in- come by source (such as wages, salary, weddings, baptisms, etc.) plus the amount.
• A list of each item of tax-free ministerial in- come by source (parsonage allowance) plus the amount.
• A list of each item of otherwise deductible ministerial expenses plus the amount.
• How you figured the nondeductible part of your otherwise deductible expenses.
• A statement that the other deductions claimed on your tax return aren't allocable to your tax-free income.
At the end of this publication, you will find blank worksheets for your own use.
It's good to know we can't attach other worksheets...so I guess we have to stick with the old fashioned paper return :/. Thanks again for your response!
This is a special clergy instruction when claiming work-related expenses to schedule C income following the Deason rule. (Clergy taxes have a lot of special provisions.)
My personal thought is to e-file without the attachment and keep it with your records in case the IRS asks. The IRS instructions have not always kept up with the realities of e-filing and especially the immense backlog the IRS has right now with paper forms.
