On California state Info Worksheet, TurboTax will give a checkbox option for "direct debit of state tax payment", but it will not allow it to be checked. I am thinking that, if the option is there, I should be able to select it. What am I doing wrong?

If you are using a Desktop version of TurboTax, you can check the direct debit box on the state tax worksheet in Forms mode.
If you are using TurboTax Online, and you have taxes owed, the bank information for the routing and account number for direct debit is entered in the File section of the program in Step 2.
For California taxes, you can also make payments to the FTB directly at this webpage.
This response did not answer my question.
My question is that when I attempt to check that (debit) box, it will not allow me. It will allow direct deposit of tax REFUND, but it will not allow direct DEBIT of state tax payment. This looks like a bug to me. Why will it give me the option, if it cannot be checked?
Thanks, hozdemir22
Thank you for the follow-up question.
I've been informed that some California TurboTax Online and TurboTax Desktop customers are experiencing an issue when trying to schedule the direct debit for their tax bill payment for a date later than April 18, 2023, despite the IRS having approved an extension for certain counties that were affected by storms in January.
You can sign up for updates on this issue at this help article.
Victims of severe winter storms, flooding, and mudslides in certain California counties beginning January 8, 2023, now have until October 16, 2023, to file various Federal individual and business tax returns and make tax payments. See this IRS news release, which was last updated on February 23, 2023, for more details and to confirm whether your situation qualifies.
See here for the latest guidelines for California state taxes. California is also extending the filing due date to October 16, 2023, for taxpayers in the affected areas.
The extended time for filing your individual return, if you are in the affected area, applies regardless of what tax forms and schedules you need to include with your return.
The postponement of time to file and pay does not apply to residents and businesses located in the following 7 counties: Imperial, Kern, Lassen, Modoc, Plumas, Shasta, and Sierra.
Sorry, but it seems the link you referenced for updates is no longer valid. Any idea whether this has some other workaround to enable taxpayers to file electronically and have CA direct debit for tax due tomorrow?
