Hi,
I already filed my taxes for 2021 and then just received the Letter 6475 regarding my Recovery Rebate Credit from the 2021 Economic Impact Payment. I tried amending the return to include the credit on TurboTax (since I had to pay taxes this year) but there's no way for me to include the credit. Does anyone know how to make the amendment to include the credit?
Thank you

You do not need to amend the filed tax return. If you said on your return that you did not get the Recovery Rebate the IRS automatically changes that on your return and lets you know why they changed it.
Hi Tucker16, thanks for responding so quickly. I didn't receive the Letter 6475 until now so I didn't realize I was able to qualify for it. The letter and the IRS website states that I can get the credit. So would be helpful to know how to amend the return.
Thank you
So you did not claim the Recovery Rebate credit on your tax return. In this case, the IRS says that you need to amend your return to claim the Recovery Rebate credit.
Please see question H1 of this IRS FAQ.
In your amended return, go through the Federal review section to claim your Recovery Rebate credit.
In TurboTax Online, to claim the Recovery Rebate credit please do the following:
Hi MinhT1,
I can't seem to navigate to that page when I'm amending my tax return. I would go to the search part, type "Stimulus" and click 'Jump to Stimulus' but the questions never get asked again. Is there any way I can re-trigger the questionnaire?
Thank you everyone for your responses.
Go through entire amend and review. Form will pop up on Review.
In TurboTax Online, you are prompted to input the third stimulus check information under Review down the left hand side of the screen. You can also access your stimulus check choices by following these steps:
If you have not received the third stimulus check, you will receive your payment in the form of a Recovery Rebate Credit on line 30 of your 2021 Federal tax return when you file.
TurboTax will compare your stimulus payment amount to the computations within TurboTax. The computations within TurboTax are based upon the information that you have entered into the tax software. If you are due an additional amount, it will be issued as a Recovery Rebate Credit (RRC) on line 30 of the 2021 1040 tax return.
If you have e-filed your 2021 Federal tax return and the tax return is accepted by the IRS, you will have to amend your 2021 Federal tax return and correct the entries and calculations to receive the Recovery Rebate Credit.
Hi,
I clicked "Amend using TurboTax Online", but I cannot find the Federal review section. There are only "Amend" and "Cancel Amend" on the left side. There is no "Federal " on the left side.
Use the Search feature to get to the stimulus section @Peter King.
Here's how:
If you don't see this screen, it means you are not qualified to receive the stimulus based on your 2021 info.
When I login on the IRS website it say I haven’t filed my 2021 return should I be worried? @ErnieS0
You should not be worried, it takes some time for the processing of your return to show up in the IRS refund portal even after the return has been accepted by them.
It’s been log over 21 days an the bars are no longer there @ErnieS0
Once your return has been accepted @Rapunzel90 you have to contact the IRS for updates. If the bars have disappeared, it's possible your return has been pulled from routine processing.
The IRS may be correcting an errors, looking at something. or it may be nothing. The IRS does not tell TurboTax.
Call 1-800-829-1040. Be aware. The phone lines are backed up. The IRS opens at 7AM local time in every time zone. The earlier you call, the better your chance of speaking with someone.
No need to amend Recovery Rebate Credit since the IRS will automatically calculate/adjust this number for you.
Hi,
I did this after not claiming my third stimulus payment for the Recovery Rebate Credit. I input the correct amount I received in the amendment, and after saying I was ready to e-file, it is trying to have me set up payment to the IRS when I should not owe anything. (My mistake on the original filing caused me to have a balance due which is why I'm trying to fix it). Did I do something wrong? I should not have to owe the $1400 I received through the EIP.
