There is no place on the form to designate a place for direct deposit. ... You must file Form 1040X for an amended return on paper and mail it to the IRS. The IRS will mail a check for the amount of your additional refund to the address shown on your amended tax return.
They only mail checks for refunds. No Direct Deposit.

It says.....You will receive a check for any refund due to you. A refund on an amended return can’t be deposited directly to your bank account.
When your amended return results in a refund or additional refund, the only way the IRS will pay that refund on an amended return is by mailing a paper check to the address shown on that return. So you don't need to bother changing anything really. Even if you designate an account on an amended return, the IRS is still going to mail you a paper check.
