Accrued market discount should not be 0. Enter amount disallowed under wash sale rules, or leave blank if entire loss is disallowed. The site won't allow to leave blank.

Right? This is particularly frustrating. Here's what (finally) worked for me. FYI--I was using a desktop.

1) Go to Income, and Investments

2) If you uploaded directly from your broker, in my case many records of individual transactions, delete them all; then choose the report as a summary instead. This page is also in your brokerage statement, same form. Manually enter these values. Round to the dollar. This reduces the possibility of rounding errors causing downstream errors as you conduct your final review. And...

3) Make sure the correct codes are selected. This was another error that seemed to be triggered by uploading from my brokerage. This was harder to figure out.

This experience pretty much tells me it's time to explore other tax prep products. TT is just overpriced. I've had couple of these issues over the years, and the time it takes to resolve should be compensated somehow (don't send me an NPS survey).  And, I couldn't get the help I needed in a timely manner.  One way to recoup that? Use a cheaper service and see if I can get a better outcome. Besides, the tax law changes have reduced the need for itemization. So why pay so much for easy returns? That's not TT's fault, but its another factor. Again, if you want to retain me as a customer, reduce price, or otherwise compensate for this.

Same problem. Not a small problem. This needs to be fixed.

Hi Annette,

I'm having the same issue mentioned before.

This solution did not work for me.  The amount on the broker's download is 0.  TT will not allow me to leave a blank entry.

I'm sorry ReneeM7122, but this does not work.  A blank value is not accepted by the Smart Check algorithm at the time of filing.  This is not a solution.

It worked! Thank you! Thank you!! 😀😀😀

A few posts on here got me in the ballpark, but ultimately didn't work for me.

Here is what did-

First you’ll want to write down the numbers to each error (include decimal)

  • Wages & Income
  • I’ll choose what I work on
  • Investment Income - visit all
  • Click edit on your financial institution
  • Match error numbers to transactions - click edit
  • Select I’ll enter a summary for each sales category
  • Click box “I need to enter amounts from box 1f, box 1g, or other adjustments
  • Select continue at the bottom
  • Do this for each error you received
  • Run error check again to see if you are clear

Good luck! I thought I was going to have to wait indefinitely to file.

PS: I forgot to add that you won't be adding anything to the 1f or 1g boxes. It seems that the empty variable fixes the zero problem.

From all the other comments, it seems like the solve is to manually go and remove all items that are <.49, however, when importing from a brokerage account this could be way too many records to do with the current UI. In my case 300+ records.

Is there any other way to bulk upload the data?

Just doing the math, it takes about 3.5 hours to complete this task (how is this acceptable?!). The table requires you to edit each item manually, takes 3 secs to load, find the item to edit, then continue ~10 secs load, continue again another ~10 secs, then find your place on the table again (sifting through several pages of records, and when you come back you have to click again to get back into the page number you were on of the list)...

If you have too many transactions that would require editing, you can consider deleting your imported information and entering a summary of the different categories of transactions reported on your Form 1099-B (short-term covered, short-term not covered, long-term covered, long-term not covered).  This would require you to mail a copy (not the original) of your Form 1099-B from your brokerage to the IRS within three days of filing your return.  The Form 1099-B would be attached to Form 8453, which will print with your return.

TurboTax team, there really needs to be a fix for this. I have too many records to sort through and the column for Wash Sale amount isn't displayed so it's very difficult to navigate to each of these transactions to try and manually fix them. This is preventing me from being able to e-file and I'll need to head a different service if there's no reasonable fix for this out soon. Thank you.

"Form 1099-B Worksheet--Capital gn (ls) adjustments/other info: Accrued market discount should not be 0.Enter amount disallowed under wash sale rules, or leave blank if entire loss is disallowed."

When I try to get rid of the zero in the blank, it won't let me.  That is all that is keeping me from finishing.  What do I do?

You need to go back to your 1099 entry(ies) and zero out box 1g there. TT makes it look like you can fix it when it flags the "error", but it doesn't work, the only way is to go back to the income section.
