Get your taxes done using TurboTax
Right? This is particularly frustrating. Here's what (finally) worked for me. FYI--I was using a desktop.
1) Go to Income, and Investments
2) If you uploaded directly from your broker, in my case many records of individual transactions, delete them all; then choose the report as a summary instead. This page is also in your brokerage statement, same form. Manually enter these values. Round to the dollar. This reduces the possibility of rounding errors causing downstream errors as you conduct your final review. And...
3) Make sure the correct codes are selected. This was another error that seemed to be triggered by uploading from my brokerage. This was harder to figure out.
This experience pretty much tells me it's time to explore other tax prep products. TT is just overpriced. I've had couple of these issues over the years, and the time it takes to resolve should be compensated somehow (don't send me an NPS survey). And, I couldn't get the help I needed in a timely manner. One way to recoup that? Use a cheaper service and see if I can get a better outcome. Besides, the tax law changes have reduced the need for itemization. So why pay so much for easy returns? That's not TT's fault, but its another factor. Again, if you want to retain me as a customer, reduce price, or otherwise compensate for this.
