I was finishing up my taxes, and the software wanted to update before doing the final review (Windows Premier +California). It had previously not found any errors; I was just checking some calculations and wash sale entries otherwise it would already be filed. The update changed the amount due for Federal by 15%, and the state refund is now an amount due.
I can't find any information on what was in the 4/6/2023 update. I don't trust the software now. That's just too much of a change. And we now owe a perfect multiple of $1000 - that seems too unlikely.
Any suggestions to make me trust this software again? I've used it for years and have never seen such a large discrepancy in my return after an update so late in the tax season.

Turbotax caused the issue - actually two issues. These are very concerning - it's hard to trust software that has these types of errors so close to the filing deadline. Why haven't these been addressed?
1) I had overridden a field, then reverted the override. My taxes were saved before the software was updated, but somehow the overrides showed up again after the update. I caught the issue myself by reviewing the 1040 form and seeing the old entry. I almost filed without fixing this - would have cost me $4k.
2) Form 8801 doesn't correctly compute - for the issue and solution, see https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/taxes/discussion/i-noticed-turbotax-form-8801-does-not-calculate-p.... This is SUPER bad because it was discovered and a workaround posted on forums a month ago! Another $8k that I almost overpaid. Thankfully I did some google searching for the issue, but no thanks to Turbotax (other than to provide servers for a great community forum)
